Cats Protection's Cat Manifesto!

Post by Jane »

Cats Protection’s Cat Manifesto was launched on 10 February and covers 10 points, from regulating cat breeding and compulsory microchipping to banning snares.

They want people to contact their MP to ask them to support it - that can be done through their Cats Manifesto page here:

Please support,
Thank you!

I saw this Manifesto the other day on "Pussington Post" website. Brilliant idea if it takes off...Pussington Post seem to specialise in heartwarming stories of cat rescues etc in the USA but occassionaly they have items from UK and this was on a few days ago..
I keep Pussington Post in favorites as they have some amazing stories of cats being rescued etc..It does make on cry though..!! ( The USA newsreels seem to end with a cat story..!!)

I couldn't work out how to email my mp - but I'm afraid she's notoriously useless - enough said eh?

I agree wholeheartedly with the cpl's manifesto - I feel there should be drastic changes to the law concerning cats, that there should be greater protection - and also legislation against neglectful owners who get a cute kitten and then, when it turns into a scrawny un-neutered cat, kick it out and basically have a wild animal visiting every day for food, but beyond that - well, not their fault is it? Or so they claim.

I feel there should be the same legislation that applies to dogs, and more, that cats not intended as breeding stock should be neutered, that more responsible ownership should be required, especially regarding the cat's activities (such as fouling) and safety (protection from hostile neighbours/ road traffic accidents.)

My cats' garden is wired in but I provide movable 'ladders' for any intruder. I also have to provide IR cat deterrents, otherwise my garden would be the local cat bog, as it was for a while before I fitted the gadgets. (The deterrents are switched off when my own cats go out.) The house next door is to let - and likely to stay that way. A couple of large flowerpots have been overturned in its yard and the neighbour 2 doors down has 3 un-neutered cats who have turned the flowerpot compost into a sea of...well, I leave it to your imagination. The neighbour on the other side of her turns his hosepipe on any cat he spots in his yard. Her cats lead a lousy life! People like that should never have been able to acquire a cat in the first place! (Sorry for rant!)

Other cats in this inner-city neighbourhood don't seem much better off. I spotted one poor little devil squatting on the pavement like a dog - who do these owners think is going to clear up after their cats - the cat **** fairy?

And so many people seem to regard cats as vermin - I once turned round on someone who made a sick joke regarding cats and asked him if he'd think that that was so funny if it concerned a puppy or a baby. He looked shocked, and very hostile.

It's definitely time to bring cats' rights out of the middle ages!

Again sorry for the rant! :)

If you want to email your MP click on the link then scroll down to where it says 'What can I do to help?' then in the first paragraph click on where it says 'Click here' to send an email... Then you will see where it says 'Email your MP'. Hope that helps!

While I agree with everything said, it is pointless contacting my MP, SF refuse to sit in British Parliament.

Good luck though.
