RIP Gallagher

I found little Gallagher dead 2 evenings ago. He didn't come for his supper so I went looking for him. I was hoping he was dead rather than screaming in agony with saddle thrombosis. I found him in one of the straw beds in the garage, curled up. I think he went in his sleep. His entire litter had bad hearts, and at 2 years old, he had lived the longest. He was a kitten from Byron of the Walking Dead Poet's colony. The entire colony had bad hearts and are totally inbred. I am glad he went peacefully and didn't suffer like Momo did.

It wasn't unexpected. None of these kittens had ever thrived, and it was only a matter of time and keeping them bouncy and happy for as long as they lasted. They can print organs on 3D printers now, and it has been pioneered on human patients. Maybe someday science and technology will be able to fix these cats born with dodgy organs because humans fail to spay and neuter eh? But it would be SOOOO much simpler and cheaper to just spay and neuter in the first place

I am sad, but resigned, if that makes sense. I am relieved that he seems to have died in his sleep. His sister, Rosie, had to be euthanised as she collapsed and was in pain and distress. Same end, but so much nicer when they go peacefully in a place they feel secure. He was in great form up to his death. When he didn't arrive for his warm evening meal, I knew he was either dead or dying.

So sorry to hear but at least you found him and he didn't just wander off, i remember when you were on the forum previously, and taken in the little souls, all with fantastic names, and you said at the time they were inbred, RIP little Gallagher.

Sorry to hear that Catherine, but like you say It was expected and it seems he went peacefully. I think all of us would wish that for our babies, just to pass in their sleep,warm and content.

Yes.... I really think he went peacefully, and that he had a great time while he was on this earth. Better short and sweet than long and bitter eh?
