How much do your cats eat?

Tiki is eating a lot more than expected at the moment, I know as a kitten she will be eating a lot but she just never seems to be satisfied - I have had lots of cats and I know they can be greedy, Boo will often beg for food she doesn't really want but the difference is she will beg for it and then reject it when she gets it.
We started Tiki on Whiskers kitten food but she doesn't seem to want it anymore, she only wants to eat the same food as Boo which I have tried mashing for her but she just woffs it down. She will polish off her whole plate and then chase it round the kitchen literally trying to lick the pattern off the plate (Boo will only eat her food off a fancy china plate so we don't do cat bowls haha).
She will finish her food in half the time Boo does then head butt Boo out of the way to eat her food. We have tried feeding Boo apart from her but to be honest Boo is a bit of a grazer and she's so soft natured she just lets the kitten have her dinner.
Tiki eats little and often as she is growing so fast, normally she has her breakfast in the morning, an afternoon snack, tea and supper before she goes to bed and she never leaves a scrap. Her bathroom habits are completely normal and she has energy and she's not lethargic so fairly sure she is just burning it off. Does anyone else have a cat like this or is she just a gannet?

Ours is the same. You'd think we were starving her from the way she eats half the time! We've had to be careful as she's getting a real ponch on her and she also tends to start pushing her tray around the hall if she feels she's hungry! We also feed her morning, noon and night. (We tried all at once for a few days and she left some lovely surprises all over the floor from eating too much)

I believe you just have a greedy cat  If she starts looking a little too plump I'd try putting a little less in her bowl. With two cats it's more difficult though, I've never owned more than one at a time so I'm not sure what's best to prevent food stealing. (Apart from the obvious putting one cat in the other room until the other has finished eating scenario)

Lol - happy days! They've got hollow legs at that age! As Mrs Kane says, you do have to be on the watch against them gaining too much weight, and I think I must have been lucky as I've always put down a plate of food and let them get on with it, as well as leaving bowls of biscuits for them to snack on.

My old tomcat, Finn (now sadly passed on) was a middleaged feral when he moved in and I'm afraid he did use to gorge to the point of throwing up. A primitive response, since he'd spent his life grabbing food as and when he could. I had him neutered and had to train him, gently, not to spray in the house, and if I did have to tell him off his response would be to run to the nearest bowl of biscuits and stuff himself. Just in case that was his last chance. Poor chap! As if I'd throw him out!

He did end up with rather a portly belly and my two teenage cats are shall we say comfortably rounded, but the youngest and greediest is tubular (classed as 'ideal' on the weight charts.) She's almost 4 like your Boo, but acts like she's 4 months lol.

I feed wet food once a day but other than that they have their biscuits - I think it's a case of what works for the owner and the household routine :)

Glad it's not just us that suffers from permanent kitten syndrome  3 year olds should not be running around the house all the time and playing with everything, it's just odd!

As Lilith said. It's all about what works best for your cat. Hopefully in time he'll calm down and not be so greedy. I'd try experimenting with food while he's still young. Perhaps trying things that Boo likes in her bowl different things in his own stuff in his bowl so he learns what's his. You can but try. If he still wolfs the lot down at least he's a bit easier to feed if your normal cat food is ever discontinued! Just don't make the mistake we did of trying him with all kinds of people food. Then it'll be "Mum, I want a ham sandwich/pork chop/lamb chop/chicken piece/piece of steak/tuna sandwich too!"

(Don't worry gang, we never gave her the bones)

I have older cats, so the amount will be a lot less that for yourger, active moggies, but I do have a couple of complete and utter pigs and cannot leave food down all the time or I'd have a couple of four-legged beach balls.

I feed twice a day, all in one room together, and have got into a routine where they get the same bowl, in the same spot, in the same order each meal and they know they are not allowed to steal food from each other's bowls. When they've finished I pick up any left over (there rarely is) and it's only then that the pigs are allowed to have a look round and 'do the washing up' of the empty bowls.

We do treats when we get home from work sometimes, but otherwise we NEVER respond to food solicitation, so they don't really ask much. I think cats often like the begging/feeding routine for the attention as much as for the actual food - as long as they're not genuinely hungry often a fuss, a game and one treat will make them just as happy as a bowlful.
