Tales of the unexpected cat...

Post by Lilith »

On Crewella's thread about kittens I kind of hijacked it with a strange experience involving kittens; lots of people must have had this sort of happening around cats or any animal, which can't be rationalised, and Bobbys girl suggested we might have another thread concerning the odd and inexplicable.

I'll start off with not a ghost story but a dream story. At the age of 12/13 I had a horrible dream about my cat Saada, who was in awful danger. The following morning I found her badly injured after being run over. She recovered, thankfully, but after that I had some very odd and prophetic dreams and the most graphic dream was this:-

It was in the 70s; I had some adult cats and two adolescent kittens, Thomas and Khalil. One night I had an awful dream where Khalil was in danger and it was all my fault. Somehow I managed to rescue him - but where was Thomas? I heard him crying - and ran to him to find him at a great height, yelling his head off but safe.

The following morning I got up, let the cats out and opened the back gate for the binmen to come in (in those days before wheelybins) made breakfast and coffee and sat down with my then partner Adrian to tell him about my nightmare - when I was interrupted by an almighty commotion outside the back door.

I dashed out to find several dogs in the yard. One, an Alsatian (no slur meant on Alsatians btw; I owned one later myself) snatched Khalil off the windowsill and ran off with him in its jaws. I chased it, screaming - and it dropped him. I'd never seen these dogs before; didn't know they roamed the neighbourhood. I felt tremendously guilty though; it HAD been my fault, letting the cats out. Khalil was soaked in dog spit and very shocked but fortunately unhurt.

The other cats were fine - but Tom was missing. Then I heard him yelling. Next door was a huge lilac tree and - you've guessed it - there at the top was Thomas! He got down by himself.

Now how do you explain that? I mean, you can't.

Over to you guys :)

....or dog.

In March 2006 we lost our beloved Lurcher, Katie, to cancer. It was quite sudden (she hadn't been THAT ill) and we were in bits.

OH had arranged to go over to England to put a new kitchen in for his daughter and as everything was bought he thought he had better go.

My mum (who now lives with us) was over in England visiting my sister, so it was just me, Rosie, Willow and kitten Purdy.

One day I was working in the house when I thought I saw, out of the corner of my eye, Rosie standing in the doorway. 'What's up girl, is it supper time?' Then, as I turned I saw Rosie out in the garden! (She never moved THAT fast!)

Three more times while Dave was away I saw a flash of grey out of the corner of my eye or was aware of movement. But when I turned to look, nothing.

I'm not fanciful by nature and it wasn't high on the list of topics for conversation when Dave came home. But when I did mention it he wasn't suprised. 'Oh yes I saw 'her' too. I reckoned it was Katie and so I asked her to keep an eye on you girls.' Seems she did. We never saw her again. But we built a garden around her grave and the kitties often sun themselves there.
That's my Katie, she's no lady, but I love her.

Aww! K-K-K-Katie! BEAUTIFUL Katie!

So glad she stayed around to look after you all!

It's classic, is that, you see them out of the corner of your eye but if you look full at somebody, they disappear.

What a gorgeous girl, you must have been shattered to lose her but you'll meet her again someday.

I had a similar experience as a child with my first rabbit.

We were on holiday in the caravan for the weekend and on the Saturday night before we returned I had a horrible nightmare that giant cockroaches had invaded our home and my rabbit Mossy was trying to fend them off.

We drove home pretty early Sunday morning so my sister and I could go to a school party that afternoon. Only to find that our house had been burgled. Our rabbit was calmly sitting in the conservatory waiting for us, but he did have a little blood around his ears. We later found out from the vet that one of the burglers must have kicked him before they made off with all our stuff.
It was incredible because the burglers had kicked the back door in, so Mossy was free to run off if he wanted, but he chose to stay with us. :)

I'll always remember that day, not just because of the burglary but because it was also the day that Princess Diana was killed in a car crash.

Ah I'm glad somebody else has dreams like that - it's kind of worrying though isn't it? When you do have a nightmare you think, now is that a genuine warning or just a load of old subconscious?

Poor Mossy! Evil devils to have hurt him!
