Anyone got older cats?

Post by Jodie »

My two have just turned 16 - I can't believe I've still got them and they both appear fit, healthy and eat very well. My girl still tears around the house and my boy still loves going out. They both have lovely fur still, although, I've noticed recently that the fur on Toby's legs isn't quite so white any more, so will ask vet to check him out for mobility next time we go.

If you've got an older cat, what age are they, how are they in themselves? If they've got a health problem, what age did it show up?

Hi Jodie, I have 18 year old Pepsi. She is really well. She has some arthritis, pain controlled by metacam, and has had several teeth out, but her last senior bloods were really good. She does sleep a lot, but she also likes to dash around and play, demand my attention, have a lot of cuddles and lap time and generally rule the roost!

We have two 18 year old girls, Rosie and Flo. They were both diagnosed with hyperthyroidism and then CKD about two years ago for which they're receiving treatment. They both have arthritis and take Yumove Cat for that which has really made a big difference. They sleep a lot, but still enjoy mealtimes and cuddles. :)

I had two beautiful black cats, brother and sister called Rowan and Holly. They were eighteen and a half when they were pts. Rowan went first poor boy and, Holly couldn't live without her brother, went down so swiftly and followed Rowan to the 'Bridge' about a week later.

Apart from Holly having thyroid problems they were very healthy (for their age) up to age taking over quite suddenly; and I still think about them and all the happiness, comfort and love they gave me.

I was very lucky in that all of my original cat family of five lived until their late teens - two almost made it to 20. Funnily enough, those two were the ones that had health problems in their last few years, one with dodgy kidneys, one with dodgy guts and both with arthritis. The other three lived to 17/18 and were pretty much fine until their last couple of months, perhaps just slowing down little in their last year or so.

I hope you still have a good few years with your two. xx

I lost my oldie Molly at 21 and would say that the last 3 or 4 years of her life was when she went downhill, but up until then she was just your regular old doddery cat that had age related kidney issues (easily dealt with) and the onset of feline dementia and had gone deaf. She also developed arthritis which she was given pain control and acupuncture for.

of my current lot, the oldest two are sisters Jamie and Abbie and they're 9.
