Aw that's brilliant Helen. If he is happy and loved what more could he ask for at his stage of life. He looks so content in his photo. Good on you and great big fusses for him x

That's great news, I think it often takes a fright for them to appreciate us! Hoping he continues to be stable, fusses to Padders and then gang x

Thanks guys. I hardly dare hope, but he's so much better and he rarely falls now, though he staggers sometimes. He can now jump off the windowsill into the garden without help and runs down the stairs faster than I do (though once he's started down I'm not too sure he could stop - he just sort of gathers momentum until he reaches the bottom!).

I suspect he will always have a head tilt now, and that in itself causes a lack of balance and a tendency to circle when he gets excited at treat time in the kitchen, but he seems to be learning how to cope with it and mostly now manages to move in a straight line. More or less. :D

He's really game, bless him - the sort of cat that just seems to get on with things and not let setbacks bother him. The time I was most worried about him was the two days he 'took to his bed' and seemed to lose confidence and just wait for me to bring him his dinner or carry him to the tray. It just wasn't like him, and I was so relieved when he rallied and started back on his feet after the second steroid injection. He's had a tough life, and he's such a good boy and a trier, he deserves a bit longer to enjoy his retirement. :)

Yes! That's a heartwarming post Helen. I'm sure he is having the best retirement a cat could have, and rightly so. He is a real trooper. So happy for you all. Big fusses for Paddington x

Great update Helen :) - I guess we just have to accept their new way, as they have.

I have a similar thing here with Kylie -she came back from the brink, but she isn't the old cat we knew and loved. She actually started climbing up to her bed in the basement (lower ground) window for the first time in about almost a year this week, so is obviously stronger, but definitely a granny cat now.

Glad to hear Kylie doing well too Mark. Wonder if the younger ones have added to her new lease of life ;)

I'm glad of an update on the lady Kylie as well. :)

I just got home after a long day at work, and both Daz and Paddington were out and came up the path to meet me (coming home to cats, one of my favourite things). Once they'd had a scritch and seen me heading towards the house, they both bounded off in front of me - Daz doing his usual mad gallop and Paddy trotting along gamely after him, full of beans but like a little old drunk, drifting to the left and once or twice having to pull himself out of the flowerbed, realign himself with the front door and set off again! :D

Thanks everybody. Paddington has continued to improve, but the recovery is slowing so I do think he's stuck with the head tilt and a slight tendency to the left. He is fine, though and has been playing 'chase' with Daz today and definitely holding his end up!

The head tilt is actually very appealing and in fact only adds to his charms!

Just wanted to update. Paddy started shaking his head a bit last week, as though his ears were irritating him again, so I whipped him down to the vets. They think he might have an inner ear infection so have given him antibiotics, but told me to keep off the ear drops as there was an excess of fluid down there which might be further irritating him. He seems fine again, and is soooooo much better than he was a few months ago - he really has made an amazing recovery. Bless him. :)
