male or female
Somebody dropped this cat off & we took it in..It is a calico but we dont know if it is spayed & is it a male or female..Can anyone help here?

definitely female - even without your very clear photo, the answer would be the same, as 99.9% of all calicos/tortieshells are female
there is no way to tell if she is spayed though, alas, unless she has a nick in an ear, which could mean she has been trapped and spayed by a rescue

This looks like our neutered male who still has little pompoms like that. Your vet should be able to tell you for sure. If he's not neutered, you may be able to get cheap or free neutering from a local animal rescue.

This is definitely a neutered male.
Female openings are closer together and the vagina resembles a T shape.
From the colouring I can see in the photo he also looks tabby not calico.
