Hi everyone.

I feed my cats Sanabelle sensitive as one of them, Perseus, cannot produce a solid stool with anything else. I rehomed a cat, Jager, in February that looked like it had never eaten. A tiny scrawny little madam.

I lost my beautiful boy Apollo just over a week ago to pericardial effusion, so I wasn't leaving anything to chance and took Jager to see the vet as she has put on a drastic amount of weight and developed a cough (like she was trying to cough up hairballs unsuccessfully)

It turns out I've just paid £30 to be told she's just fat! (Thank god nothing more sinister!) So madam Jager needs a diet to lose some of her 5.1kg bulk.

Sanabelle light seems like the obvious solution, but I can't find any information as to if this food is also gluten free so that all the cats can eat it. I don't really want to have to buy sensitive as Perseus needs it and light for Jager, if they can all eat the same. Splitting them up at meal times would be a nightmare!

Has anyone used sanabelle light who could possibly advise?

No idea regarding Sanabelle light; sorry - but I feed mine Arden Grange light which is cereal free (has and all six of mine are doing really well on it so that may be an option for your lot? You can buy small trial packs from places like Pets at Home and Waitrose. This is the list of ingredients:

Ingredients
Fresh chicken(26%), potato (26%), chicken meat meal (22%), pea starch, egg powder, chicken digest, salmon oil, yeast extract, malt extract, pea fibre, chicken oil, minerals, prebiotic FOS, prebiotic MOS, cranberry extract, glucosamine, MSM, chondroitin, nucleotides.

I buy mine from Zooplus though as it works out a bit cheaper that way.

I've not tried Sanabelle but the ingredients list for the light suggests that is uses rice as the cereal content:

To be honest, though, I've found that the best way for a cat to lose weight is to cut down the amounts and feed less dry food as it's much more calorific than wet.

Thank you for your condolences for Apollo.

Yes the vet did say about cutting down her intake..... I honestly didn't think she was eating as much as she obviously is!

I took up the food today to start introducing meal times instead of grazing.... The others are not happy, but they'll soon get used to it!

Yes, the rice does suggest gluten - never gave that a thought! Thank you. Will try the Arden Grange one as well.

My cats names - I do try to ensure I have fab names to shout when calling them in! I have Koshka Anne (Russian for cat), Tabitha, Rosie, Perseus, Athena and Jager. I also have Koshka's brother, Scruff, but he didn't get on with his nephew (Apollo) and moved out 3 years ago. He's taken up residence with an older lady down the road, I'm not sure where exactly, but he turns up when he needs the vets, so I take him, he has a bath, gets wormed and flea'd, stays for a few days and disappears again for a few months! I've also being offering a home to a stray that my crew chill with in the garden. He comes in to eat late at night and sleeps with Koshka and Rosie, but always bolts out as soon as he hears anyone. I have named him Nathan. We've been trying to give him a home for 18 months now, but he won't stay!

Just a thought, but if you end up having to feed them all different things and different amounts, Sureflap do a microchip controlled pet bowl which might help. Comes expensive though, at £99 a go, so more a last resort!
