Catterel!

Post by Lilith »

Some of you may remember my mentioning my three-quarter Siamese George (1983-2001) He was huge and black and resembled the Beast of Bodmin and was utterly gorgeous and gentle in every way.

Today I came across a poem I wrote in his honour...doggerel - well, catterel!

Ode to George -

The size of George; the weight of George!
The eyes of George; the slightly rolling gait of George!

The midnight black of George; the gravity of George!
The upright back of George; the dignity and suavity of George!

The barefaced cheek of George; the charm of George!
The pearshaped sleek of George; the stately calm of George!

The lumbering paws of George; the raucousness of George!
The rumbling snores of George, and oh -
The absolute and utter
George-ousness
Of George!

Were he with me today,
I'm sure George would say,
Along with his sister
(I couldn't resist her)
The dreaded
Leopard

In between yowling
And *formation prowling,
They'd say, I'd surmise -
Thanks, guys! :D

*Formation prowling is a Siamese 'thing' - they literally walk side by side, in step, focused on whatever's caught their attention...usually food...

So the people who animated the Siamese cats in "Lady and the Tramp" got it right... :D

Ohh but yes! I'd forgotten about that clip but that is exactly what they do - couldn't believe it when I first saw it.

I confess I detest Disney but whoever designed that bit of film certainly knew about Siamese :D

Thanks Vivian, but I really believe George wrote it himself and transmitted it to me via telepathy lol. :D
