Hey everyone, it's been a while
we're all doing great, I do my drawing and gaming, my cats do their...catting XD
and all three are as close as ever, they just adore each other, as they should

here's a pic of Kala and Milla grooming Casper, took this a month or two back Well, back on topic, whatever regular brush and comb we normally use aren't getting the job done when it comes to Casper it seems. I generally don't mind cat hair at all having had long haired cats for decades but Casper's is a bit too much and when I have people over they tend to complain, plus there's more cat hair than ever in the house and it's all white, wonder why He also mats a lot more than even Anastasia before them. Yet for all the shedding he does, he is still chuck full of fluff everywhere.

So guys, what's a good brush or brush and comb combo to get? I looked at this furminator thing but ebay is chuck full of fake chinese knock offs that I doubt work as good as they should.

I have a couple of good metal cat grooming combs, no special make, but I picked them up when we got a Ragdoll and they are the best I have ever found. I've just lent them to my Mother as her long haired cat was matting and I took them down at the weekend to help de matt her (the cat not my Mother). As well as managing to free off a couple of matts by slowly teasing the fur out with the combs I then gave Tufty a quick groom on her back and flanks, and game away with a good double handful of fur and a couple of small matts as well. My Mother was astonished, she had never got that much out of Tufty with the comb and brush she used. The one comb is a double sided one, one side is a flea comb so very narrow gaps, the other side is slightly wider, which is the side I normally use. The other comb has alternative long and short teeth so seems very good at getting into the thick undercoat that some long haired cats have. Alternating between the two combs worked really well, the longer teeth on the one seemed very good at loosening the fur, the normal one seemed to get it out of the coat better. With only short haired cats I don't need them any more which is why I was happy to let my Mother borrow them. I don't know why but the metal combs did seem to work a lot better than any plastic ones I tried.

Agree with Ruth, those combs are brilliant. I have one of the double sided ones and same as Ruth hardly ever use the narrow side as it just seems to get caught up in the cat hair all the time (all long haired).

Another one I have is very similar to the single sided one, but the teeth rotate which limits the getting tangled in long fur

but absolutely best best best is the undercoat rake - but be warned; use it outside. The amount of hair you get off the cat using this is amazing, it ends up everywhere

finally a word of caution - some people may recommend a comb called a furminator. All well and good if you have a short haired pet, but with longer haired pet it actually pulls the hair out and obviously isn't very comfortable for them

Agree with Ruth and Meriad. I have examples of all those (or similar) devices. I usually start with a soft slicker brush like this:

The undercoat rake is also very useful and I use mine on Tilly frequently. Does seem to spread fur around everywhere, though, when in use Tilly rapidly disappears in a cloud of fur!

I have the one alanc linked to. It does an amazing job and Alfie loved being groomed with it. He would purr so much and salivate.
