My very clever cat recently decided that shut doors were not her thing and now opens them mostly in the middle of the night giving me a heart attack

Video of her opening my living room door Clever Cat Opens Door

Any ideas how i can stop her doing this?

Very clever cat! All I can think of is changing the handle for a door knob. Hope this helps. ValPC

Aha! Yes, she's worked out that she has to get her claws round the door when depressing the handle ... and she's delicate with it! We have a big fat ex-Tom who within a couple of weeks of being allowed in the house realised that the way to open doors was to depress the handle. He launches his whole fat body at it very successfully, but his weight shuts the door at the same time. I think it helps that the door has rising butt hinges, so it naturally swings shut rather than open... one frustrated cat.

Is there any reason why you have to keep her in the living room overnight?

I wonder if there's some sort of child lock you can get for doors?
