Human Epilepsy and Cats

Hello, sounds like a strange topic!!

I've got two 11 year old cat sisters. Daisy's a quite independent lady but still loves her cuddles and fuss.
Then they'res Rosie, my shadow who likes to be as close as possible but will never sit or lay on me. On the bed all night and day with the odd stroll outside! Acts like hasn't seen me in a week when I pop out for an hour!

I have epilepsy which has been much worse over the last 5years. I tend to have seizures in the morning/evening and during the night.

Rosie can act strangely! She sometimes gives me a bit of warning, won't come near me and sleeps in the living room (normally her sisters room!)
After my seizures she will then come back and get her place next to me again!

Don't know if it's because I have a tendency to kick the duvet off the bed or just because I scare her! But can be a good way for me to prepare myself sometimes!!

I know of seizure alert dogs that can smell the seizure but just wondering if anyone else has a health condition that their cat reacts to??

Daisy couldn't care less but Rosie definitely acts differently!

Thanks for reading.

I've not experienced it myself, but there is starting to be A LOT of anecdotal evidence that cats can pick up on disease and conditions just as well as dogs can, dogs are just easier to train.

Hopefully Rosie will be with you for a good few years and keep giving you the warnings when seizures are expected. It may not change what happens but at least it means you can prepare yourself for one.

I had a cat with epilepsy, his seizures would more often than not be at the same time as yours. I woke one night to what I thought was banging on my bedroom room (I live alone, it freaked me out), got up and one of my other cats was outside my door, I then heard Tig having a seizure in the other room so she was alerting me to what was going on, on another occasion during the day she rushed into the kitchen meowing her head off and then ran off, again he was having a seizure. I'd say they definitely know something is going on.

Think they've definitely got the ability to pick up on things we can't. Obviously I've only got the one cat but have read things in the past about others that have done similar. Very interesting stuff!

Yes hopefully will have her another ten years or so :) she's brilliant as well as helpful!

How horrible to see your cat having seizures. I'm lucky I don't see mine but think if it was my cat I'd be a nervous wreck!
