Happy birthday Lucy

I've had Lucy for two years today, not sure at some points we'd be posting this. Bought her some special turkey mousse from Sainsbury's, but she has ignored it!!

This is the message she has sent to the rescue she is from, I'll have to post pics from the phone

I have been here for 2 whole years now, although mum wasn’t sure at one point I would be here to wish you all a Merry Christmas, I’ve spent over 10 days at the vets this year. I started the year off with only my hip dysplasia, then they thought I had slight luxating patellas but decided I’d probably had them all my life and I was coping fine with them. I had blood tests before my hip operation that showed I have very early stage Chronic Kidney Disease, which made my mum sad for me, as it meant regular monitoring, but she hoped I’d be able to get 5 good years. Just as I was recovering from my operation, I became poorly and had to spend 5 days at the emergency vets, they eventually decided, after a day spent at a specialist vet that I have idiopathic hypercalcaemia, they don’t know why I have that, which means they can’t cure it, only manage it, which made mum think I wouldn’t get 5 years. Luckily I only have to have half a tablet a week, but I also have to have some horrible liquid the day before, as I still keep being sick. Mum has told the vets that if I develop any more health issues that she won’t make me have any more tests or treatments, think the vet is glad as I draw blood on her quite frequently – she said I was worse than her highly strung Bengal!! Because of the arthritis caused by my dodgy hips, I have to go once a month for needles (acupuncture), as I don’t like the liquid mum gave me last year, although I like the treats I get in the evening, and my heated bed, and now I have to have blood tests every 3 months to monitor my calcium and kidneys, which I hate, I try and hide from her, so she has to shut the bedroom door so I don't sneak under the bed, so I know something is going on, it's the only time she shuts it. Mum also thinks it’s odd that I don’t really like wet food, but I like the special food for my kidneys, although we are now struggling with my weight, which is essential for my dodgy hips – luckily the vet isn’t too concerned as it means I have reserves if my kidneys/calcium affect my appetite. Mum says she is very pleased that PetPlan have only asked for £20 extra a year, she was expecting a lot more after they have paid around £4k this year, but she loves me so much she’d have paid it anyway :D She would like me to show her more affection next year, but I think she asks too much!!

I do miss the volunteers, you tried your best for me despite me not showing any appreciation because of how stressed and unhappy I was, but I’m very glad to have a home of my own, and mum won’t make me share it with anyone, even though Sooty across the road keeps trying his luck – I chase him off though, although mum says I have to be nice to him as he is older than me. I love snuggling into things, mum found me in a pile of towels last month, she thinks I'm odd, but I love to be warm and snuggly.

Happy Birthday Lucy & as I posted wishing everyone a safe & happy Christmas here’s hoping what people are saying 2018 is going to be a better year than previous. They say 9 is a good number (1+8) & 8 is a balanced number. Loved your letter to the shelter. Vivian

Thanks, I hope so too, it's been a rubbish year health wise - when I asked one of the vets if they had many clients who had met all 7 vets, his response was 'only the unlucky ones!'

Ah, yes, an everyday story of kitty folk. I had Bob for company last night. Had to shift him in the end. He is very heavy and my feet had gone to sleep without me!

BTW I love the duvet! :D

Hmm, bit worried about her, she has been fairly quiet the last couple of days and barely eaten the nice food I bought for her, but came down this morning to find she had only half eaten her supper. She also had gunky eyes yesterday which isn't like her
