Temporary scratching ideas for big cat

Post by Jodie »

We are about to move house and obviously I'll need to keep my two cats in for 2/3 weeks. Toby is a big cat who loves to scratch the fence panels outside, so will need some kind of scratching option. He can reach just over 82cm as he can touch the top edge of our worktop.

Has anyone got any ideas? Just been talking it over with my husband who said he'd be quite happy with a fence panel (jokingly) and I can't find a scratch post over 70cm high. Has anyone got any ideas?

I'd suggest a cat tree - something like this.....

I've a similar one which my two, and previous cats, have loved - for playing, scratching, dozing, watching birds through the window, etc.

I had one of these: http://www.seapets.co.uk/products/cat-s ... LmLZfD_BwE" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; which was quite good. But I didn't have enough space really so gave it to a friend

another one to try is http://www.zooplus.co.uk/shop/cats/scra ... UIxDfD_BwE" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

the barrell will definitely be big enough and doubles up as a bed in the top. I have the XL one and mine love it.

This should do you. Ella and Archie have it and LOVE it! They stretch right up on it and it's not too expensive

it might be that he prefers wood to sisal covered posts, in which case commercial scratching posts won't appeal as much as the furniture

if you're any good at DIY you might want to look at this, built for a Maine Coone

I used a wheel barrel to bring a log home and stood it up in my cats screened in porch. They use that and a smaller log that is laying down.
Could ask someone cutting down trees. but watch out they are heavy

As a temporary scratch pad I've also nailed up an old piece of carpet, hessian side out, to the wall. Worked beautifully.
