First Cat - questions to ask

We're off to look at a cat at our local RSPCA tomorrow. This will be my/our first cat.

Are there any questions I should be asking about him that I may not have thought of?

I've got - history/story of cat, any health issues, what he's fed on.

They've said he's neutered and had all his jabs. Is apparently friendly and calm which is important as we have young children.

Anything else?

Hi and welcome and congrats on the new arrival :)

I don't know if you've seen this - https://www.catchat.org/index.php/new-cat-in-the-home

But it deals pretty comprehensively with bringing a new cat home. You seem to have thought things out well but this might give you extra ideas on what to ask.

Hopefully other people will be along with more advice but hope this helps for now and hope you have many happy years ahead with the new guy :)

Hi and welcome to you and your soon to be ruler.
One question that comes to mind that is often forgotten is what kind of litter he is used to - many cats don't like change in this department.
May you have many happy years together.

if you already brought him home, you need to get a litter box as well

Try getting a standard litter box and make sure to have atleast 2 per Cat

Some Cats pee in one and poo in one so best to have 2.

This article should get you going in getting your Cat to use the litter box (link removed)

You'll love having a Cat. They do become family and it's just amazing :)

Whatever you do, don't ever shout at them or punish them.

All the best!
