Can you have a cat flap in glass double glazed door?

Post by Jodie »

About to move into our new house and it would be ideal if a cat flap could be inserted into the glass on a double glazed door - realize it won't be cheap. Can this be done?

Yes it can. You need to contact a few glaziers and get a few quotes.

yes, I've had it done - both in a double glazed door and in a window

You will have to replace the entire glass pane though and when they make up the pane for you they will cut the hole into the glass. You then pop out the existing pane and replace it with the new one that has a hole.

you CANNOT cut into the existing pane

I had a cat flap fitted last year. My door is a full double glazed patterned panel it cost me about £225 plus the cat flap, it only took them about 40 minutes to replace. It is just a shame that only one of my four cats have mastered it :(
