Kitty back to vets

Kitty is not well. Spent all last night on the settee but when we got up this morning she's licked and bitten a raw patch where the leg of the onesie is - opposite side to op. She's washing herself constantly And obsessively and washing the onesie, settee, the throw, our hands- anything close at hand. No wee, no poo, won't get off sofa but will eat - - ravenously when food brought to her. She's got very clingy again especially with Kev - licking his face and talking to him.she just can't seem to get comfy no matter which side she lies on. Neither of us want to leave her alone as worried she may break the skin where she's licked it raw. The vet can fit us in at 3pm today but that's more stress fir Kitty as she hates going in the car.
We are both worn out with not sleeping and worry. Thought spaying was a straightforward routine op with fast recovery for a young healthy cat. Just so sad for Kitty to put her through this - feel really guilty but the alternative was unwanted kittens and too much stress on her little body. Poor Kitty Puss.😿

Oh no, just when she was doing so well. :(

This might be a rather extreme thing to say, but I'd be inclined to remove the onesie if she's got so obsessed about it. If you feel confident about doing this of course. Her stitches - or is the incision glued? - will be healing well by now and they can always refit the onesie at the vet's if they really feel it's vital ... but it's clearly causing her so much stress. It would be interesting to see how she does without it for a few hours if you can supervise her, of course. (I hope I'm not being silly here by the way!)

Honestly, you have been doing all the right things, including spaying her in the first place, and she's very very lucky to have found you. She is just one of the rare awkward ones. They do happen. A friend had her Siamese spayed and the girl came home wearing a bandage ... which she NEVER touched. In due course she was taken back to the vet's to have her stitches out; the bandage was removed and ... de nada. Not a single stitch. In quiet moments she'd snuck her long crafty Siamese nose under the bandage and taken them out ... She was absolutely fine, by the way.

Poor Kitty, and hope the problem's resolved soon, will be thinking about her, all the very best x

You are doing the right thing by taking her back.

It may be just the onesie that is irritating her but best get the wounds checked to ensure there is no infection.Cats like to be clean and obviously the onesie will be preventing her washing helf. Try not to worry as the vet will get it sorted whatever the problem is.

You say she is eating a lot ???? has she had flea and worm treatment?

Keep us informed

Dave

Poor girl I hope it is something simple to deal with.

You have done all the right things and getting her spayed was the best thing you could do for her, but like any operation things can go wrong so best to find out as soon as you can.

Like Lilith says it could be that the onesie is preventing her from grooming and that she is feeling like she needs a good clean and can't, or it could be that the stitches are starting to work out or dissolve which could be irritating her a bit.

Unfortunately while going to the vets might stress her it is the best place for them to check her over and if there is anything they need to do to help her they have the equipment on hand.

All fingers and paws here crossed that it something simple they can sort out quickly and she is back to her normal self soon.

Thanks for the reassurance everyone - it means a lot - i'm not one to keep pestering the vet but I genuinely feel somethings not right with her - I don't want to get a reputation as a fusspot with the vet but better safe than sorry as she's so precious to us just can't take any risks. we've been given a tube of advocate but I'm not sure if this is fir fleas and worms or fleas only - but we couldn't put it on with her being in the onesie - as it would just rub off the back or be absorbed by the onesie so having to wait until it's off. I'm also concerned at her not drinking - the only way we got liquid into her was by hand feeding her ice cubes - which she absolutely loved - Kev patiently sat for hours last night with ice cubes in his palm while she drank the liquid up as it melted ! She also doesn't want to walk anywhere- either because it hurts or the onesie is restricting her normal movements.
i just hope the vet can do something for her - and I really hope they don't keep her there.

Definitely best to have her checked by the vet. I have stopped worrying that my vet may think me a fusspot - they know I am, and so do I, and that I would rather pay for peace of mind than risk missing the important things! Post spay can be tricky, and it is much better to be cautious.

It is wonderful to hear that you care about her so don't worry about being concerned - most wouldn't bother which is why she needed a new home in the first place

A good vet understands that you know your cat and know when something is wrong even if you don't know quite what.

It's going back a few years but our Ragdoll was off colour and wasn't eating properly. We took him to the vets and the only thing I could say was he didn't seem to be eating as much as normal and he smelt wrong. I did feel rather daft when I said it but it was the truth. They checked him over and his teeth did need looking at, which might have explained the smell, so he was booked in for a dental. He was 13 so it wasn't a surprise we had been warned his teeth would need doing soon at his annual check up. However when they did the blood tests prior to his op it showed up that his kidney's were struggling, that was the smell I had picked up. Fortunately after a couple of operations and most of his back teeth removed he recovered well for a few more years, even his kidneys improved once the infected teeth were out.

Never be ashamed to go to the vet and say you think something is wrong. You might feel daft yourself but it could be that you have picked up very early signs of something changing. The earlier something is caught and treated the easier it is to treat.

Apologies for delayed update on Kitty Puss - I managed to lose my phone - finally found it this morning after much panic in the car!!!
The vet took the onesie off kitty and gave us a cone instead and also manipulated her bladder until she had a wee to make sure all was ok - she said she was constipated (kitty not the vet😂) But would poo in her own time and gave us some Lubix to put in her food to ease things along.and when we got her home the first thing she did was have a big poo ! ! She's like a different cat with the onesie off - she's washing constantly but leaving her scar alone which looks really well - we haven't put the cone on. She slept on our bed all night and most of today but she's refusing to eat chicken! How strange! She absolutely loved it but won't go near it now! She's also bored as she can't play or go out and is feeling quite sorry for herself but the difference to yesterday is amazing - the vet said she was wanting to wash herself and because she couldn't was obviously distressed and that's why she was biting lumps out of her leg. We have to take her back tomorrow but only if she's picking at her stitches - if not we take her the following Monday. She's eating well and seems a lot happier so things are looking up - she's also bored as she's mooching round just looking for trouble- and wants to play and being naughty by scratching the new sofa and carpets which she knows she gets shouted at for doing - in other words it looks like normal service is being resumed which is awesome - it's been an awfully long week for us all!
Thankyou everyone on this forum for the advice , support and kind words and thoughts - it's made such a huge difference. Thankyou 😻😻

Glad the vet was happy with her, I wouldn't bother with the cone, after 7 days everything will be fairly well healed, they normally come out after 10 days anyway. I had one female who took a couple out after 6 days and the vet said everything was healed enough not to require extra stitches.

Glad to hear everything is fine and it was just the onesie she didn't like.

Great news - I was worried, but it did occur to me that perhaps you had technological problems; phones and things always escape when they're wanted, grrr.

Hope the girl is over the worst now, big fusses to her :D

Thankyou so much Lilith - I'm not with it at all at the moment - can't remember where phone or anything else is! I blame lack of sleep and sitting up with a poorly puss.
She's back on our bed asleep all curled up and must be dreaming as whiskers and toes are all twitching - bless her she's probably dreaming of all the trees she wants to climb and all the meeces she wants to chase!
Just hope she continues to improve 😊

I have to admit I was checking in regularly hoping for an update and fearing the worst when there wasn't one, I'm a natural worrier. I'm glad it was just a missing phone.

I have a black box about 12" cubed sat on a desk next to a 24" monitor, it makes it very hard to mislay them. I have a mobile phone but it is normally in a coat pocket and turned off, I use it for the oddest thing, making phone calls while I'm out, and it only gets turned on if i need to make one.

Ruth B - Thankyou for being concerned about Kitty - with all the worry and being backwards and forwards to vet I didn't even realise my phone was missing until I went to set my alarm at bedtime and then there was panic! We checked all over but as it was dark we left looking in the car until this morning - and there it was under the seat- the battery had died and it took ages to charge from dead.
I remember the carefree happy days of no mobiles - life was so much simpler back then.
Kitty has decided she's well enough to play and has had a good few minutes twanging of the springy doorstop thing - this is a very loud pastime which gets our attention! She's definitely feeling better !
