Aldi are selling cat collars impregnated with permethrin, which is known to be highly toxic to cats
They are marketed as Beaphar Soft Cat Flea Collars
I have brought this to the attention of my local Aldi manager who said he would take it up with their Head Office
Hopefully they will remove them from sale
MEANWHILE DO NOT BUY ONE OF THESE COLLARS

Is this recent? Only Aldi and Bob Martin had the same story 5 or 6 years ago.

From what I have read most cat flea collars contain permethrin, but at a level that is only harmful if it is added to other exposure. It still seems an unnecessary risk, though.

Both my cats have been wearing one of these for two weeks without any ill effects but I was keeping a close eye on the situation.
Reviews for this product vary from dangerous to perfect,

The item is designed for cats and intended to be safe for them

Personally I'd rate it only 3 stars out of 5 as they didn't entirely get rid of all the fleas and I was still needing to use a flea comb frequently.

I have now taken them off because although they can't lick their own collar they could lick the other cat's collar or neck which might cause the 'other exposure' that might be harmful. I'll apply some Broadline instead in a few days time.
