Distraught :(

Post by Catzfan18 »

Hi all,

I posted earlier today about my cat who was very sick. Unfortunately I had to have him pts this afternoon. The vet said it was cancer and possible kidney disease. 😪

I am just absolutely distraught. I don't know how I am ever going to get through the grief. 😭 I keep thinking I could have done more for him, that maybe I could have done something which would mean he's still here today. I miss him dreadfully. I keep bursting into tears. I found him on this site, which is why i've come back on here. I found this site because I was grieving the loss of my previous cat. I just wish I could have him back. 😭

I'm sorry to hear that, but if the mass was an intestinal cancer, there likely isn't anything you could have done differently, even if you'd tried chemo for it, intestinal cancer doesn't have a good prognosis unfortunately. RIP little one

I am so sorry. I hope in time you can draw some comfort from knowing he wasn't ill very long and is now at peace.
Give yourself the time and space you need to honour him and care for yourself now.

I am so sorry - this has come on you so suddenly. The cancer had reached the stage of making him unable to eat and in constant discomfort, and you did the very kindest thing in letting him go. There is very little you could have done to slow its progression even had there been an earlier diagnosis - chemotherapy would have meant frequent trips to a specialist vet, and would probably only have made a few weeks difference at the cost of putting him through repeated trauma. We take on the hurt and the grief to spare the cats we love. But I know that doesn't help with the shock and how much losing them hurts, especially when it comes suddenly and unexpectedly. Be kind to yourself, and seek out people who understand to support you.

When you are ready we would love to hear more about why you chose him, and his life with you.
