IT'S ok, have done what had to be done..Merlin is cosied away in his blanket with a wee letter and a butterfly, he will stay here tonight although his journey began this morning, it helped just to type out my feelings...so thanks to those who read and just to all those cat lovers out there x

So sorry to hear about Merlin. We all understand what you are going through.
I don't want to appear tactless or upset you but what are you going to do with him? You say you live in an apartment and have no out door space or garden. Do you have sympathetic friends or relatives who could offer a little place in their garden?
It is something we would do (and have done). We are fortunate to have a large rural garden and a (tiny) strip of woodland. Along with our own, much missed, little ones, we have 3 other cats who for one reason or another had no other resting place. It's the least we could do for them.
I'm sure my Cassidy will find him a warm place in the sun at RB.
