Cat cleans OTT... giving himself sores

Post by Smokeyblue »

Hi All,

It's been a while since I needed to post. We have had our cat since December and all going well. Although he has started cleaning himself excessively within the last two months and I checked over his skin this evening and he is giving himself sores from it.
He also itches and cuts his chin.

It is worth pointing out he is regularly groomed at a professional groomers and has his nails clipped. He is also had his flea treatment once a month. We do try and brush him every other day, when he let's us.

Any other suggestions would be highly welcome?

Is he trying to do his own grooming and get rid of the scent of professional groomer's products?

Over grooming can be caused by stress - if it has started recently I would be looking for anything that changed in your routine or the cat's world. Could be anything from being home more, out more, new furniture, different cleaning products, etc, etc.

Yes - same thing happened to my cat although it didn't got that far, some flea treatments just do not work. As we had recently moved and improvement work was going on I thought at first it was stress related. Although your vet not spotting it is a bit strange.
