Advice please!

Post by FYMSS »

Hi Everyone - Hope someone can offer some advice.
We have 2 male cats that we are looking to rehome – a 6yo white Moggy and a 5yo ginger Moggy.
We have had these cats since kittens and are very reluctant to see them go. Our 1 year old is allergic to them and we have no current ability to keep them separate. We live in a top floor flat with no access to outside space. Due to the extent of his allergies, the cats are only allowed in the living room, kitchen and hall. They are no longer allowed in either of the bedrooms. This makes us particularly sad as the boys used to spend a large portion of their day laying on our bed but due to the hair and dander left on the sheets, this really affects our son’s skin/breathing. We have spoken to our GP and specialists at an allergy clinic and have no option but to rehome.
This has been a really tough decision for us to arrive at. I don’t think I can stress enough that we really have exhausted other options.

We were hoping to get them rehomed (rather than drop them at a shelter) but are struggling to organise this ourselves. I contacted Cats Protection around 2 months ago but have had no response. The cats are currently on the waiting list with Blue Cross in Thirsk. We originally contacted Blue Cross as they offer a Home Direct service but we unfortunately fall outside of their catchment area.

Our preferred option is rehoming but we realise that it may not be a luxury we can afford due to the time it will take.

I have therefore emailed every shelter in the area (I live in the North East) to ask about waiting lists, etc but I wondered if there was anything else I could be doing.

Any Thoughts?

Thank you!

Cat Chat’s rehoming advice page includes an ‘allergies' section, so this might help: http://www.catchat.org/rehome.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
