Help to rehome a cat

Hello,
I was just wondering if anybody could help me find somebody to rehome my parents' cat?
My parents live in Basingstoke and unfortunately my Dad passed away on 9th May and this has left my mum with their three year old female cat. The cat was very much my dad’s cat (after it was rescued following the previous keepers breaking up) and is not very sociable. She is not friendly towards my mum and has a tendency to hiss when my mum leaves or comes back to house. She will also sometime bite for no apparent reason.
She has had all of her vaccinations, she is neutered has had regular vet checks and appears to be in good health.
My mum does not like the cat (and the feeling appears mutual!!) and does not have the funds available for vets bills etc now that my dad has passed away.
Could somebody please advise me on what to do with this cat? Obviously this is a very stressful time for my mum and issues with the cat are really not helping. I have tried the cat protection league and we are on the waiting list, I have left three messages with the Basingstoke/Andover RSPCA sine 12th May and I am yet to receive a response. I have spoken to the RSPCA in Leicester (where I live) who are very good and I have used them for training my rescue dog etc but they can’t take an animal from outside of Leicestershire.
I am unable to home the cat due to my other pets and we have no family members who can. My mum is going to ask the vet to have the cat put down if I can’t find an alternative, I am very keen to avoid this happening.
Any ideas?
Thanks
Matt
