Help!

Okay, I'm most likey freaking out for no reason. 24 hours ago (230 am, October 20, 2019) I brought home an abandoned cat. She's 3 years old. I already have one kitten (approximately 10-11 months old, also a rescue).

Hubby and I gave her a safe spot with food, water, litter, toys, and a few warm spots to hide.

Here's where things went sideways. My kitten likes to open doors and got into the new cat's safe spot. I was in there just to get her used to my scent, but ignoring her so she didn't freak. Both cats smelled each other and my kitten just gave me a look like, "really mom?" and that was that.

Hubby and I had to leave to run some errands and when we came back the door to her room was open. I cannot find her anywhere in my house. I can't tell if the food was eaten by her or my kitten and the box has been used but again...by whom?

The house is completely kitten proof there is absolutely NO way the older cat got outside because my kitten would have figured it out by now.

I'm at a loss of what to do. I've looked over every inch of my house she could be hiding in and she's just disappeared. She was pretty vocal last night when I found her....if she's in distress, she'd be calling out, right?

Have you looked in all the drawers, apparently closed cupboards and boxes, etc? Inside the bottoms of upholstered furniture? All the impossible places, in fact!

I'm about 90% positive that I have. I'm home alone with her today, hubs leaves for work in a couple hours. I'm hoping that when kitten and I take a nap and aren't moving around cat will come out of hiding. I have two different sets of food and water dishes set out throughout the house so she's got access no matter where she is. However, I also don't want the kitten to over eat so I'm trying to figure out if I should revert back to our old set up which the kitten is very happy with...about 1 cup of dry food for free feeding in the bathroom (which lasts her all day) and a third to half a can of wet in the morning and at dinner time in the kitchen, which she may or may not finish. Vets very happy with kittens weight and health so I'm stuck on whether I should be leaving more out....

Like I said...it's only been 24 hours and the food and litter box we're both used in the night. I do think it was my new addition because the kitten was asleep on my chest/face most of the night as far as I can tell (very light sleeper almost always know when she gets down and even then she just moved to her pillow on the floor next to my side of the bed).

Gah! I'm sure my anxious looking for her and just my anxiety in general isn't helping.
