Temporary accommodation

Hi, I recently got out of a relationship with my partner and we had a house together and Cats, I had to move in with a friend but they are allergic to cats so cannot take the cat’s, but I would really like to keep them, I’m scared of giving them to someone I don’t know in case they don’t give me them back and also because they may not let me see them, but I would need my own place and at the moment I wouldn’t be able to afford it. I have asked around my friends, still waiting to hear back but I don’t know how long my ex will wait till he decides he wants to leave, as he has mentioned putting the house up for sale and had a validator round. I really don’t know what to do I’m scared of loosing them
