Aggressive cat in garden

Post by CatQueries »

Hi

We have 3 cats. Another cat (we call him Nestor) has been spending a lot of time in our garden the last 3 or so months. He was getting on fine with our cats. He started spending more and more time in our garden, and we realised recently that he had been sneaking in and eating our cats' food. On Saturday we installed a microchip cat flap so he can't come in anymore. He has since become very aggressive towards our 2 female cats (who are spayed), but is fine with our male cat (who is neutered). He sits outside the cat flap and attacks the two female cats, or he follows them round the garden and then attacks them, so they basically can't go outside anymore. He is constantly in our garden (6.30am - 11pm) and we can also hear him sometimes in the middle of the night. He has no collar, but he is not underweight or unhealthy looking. Neighbours have said they have seen him in their gardens and coming into their houses too. We have posted his photo on several local forums to see if anyone is looking for him/will claim him, but no replies.

Can anyone explain his suddenly aggressive behaviour? The only thing we can think of to do is to take him to the RSPCA (if we can get him into a cat basket), so they can scan him for a microchip and return him to his owner, or rehome him.

Thanks all

M xx

Hi,

If you haven’t already seen Cat Chat’s Lost & Found advice page, the information there might help you to find Nestor’s owner, or rehome him: https://www.catchat.org/index.php/cat-m ... ound#found

You might also wish to check out the latest Lost Cat reports (from PetsReunited.com) to see whether anyone has reported Nestor as missing: https://www.catchat.org/index.php/lost-found-cats

As for the aggressive behaviour, Cat Chat’s Aggression in Cats advice page might help you to work out why it’s occurring and how to deal with it: https://www.catchat.org/index.php/cat-b ... aggression

There’s also some information on preventing conflicts between cats in our Cat Introductions & Hierarchies advice page: https://www.catchat.org/index.php/new-cat-introductions

If you need any further advice or help, you could email Cat Chat’s Help Desk: cat.advice (at) catchat.org.

Hope that helps.
