My very nervous 4 year old feline Cheyenne has gone missing. She was last seen on Thursday evening 9th October. She is missing from the Shakespear area of Bicester Oxfordshire. Any assistance will be very much appreciated.

I'm so sorry to hear that lovely Cheyenne has gone missing - I really hope that she's just gone wandering and comes home soon. xx

You've probably read this and done all the things suggested, but just in case you haven't this is the Cat Chat advice section on lost cats:

I've found that it really does help to go out searching and calling late at night or very early in the morning, when it's quiet. She's more likely to be active around those times, she'll feel safer when it's quieter and also you are more likely to be able to hear each other without the background traffic and general noise.

Last year my Grumpy Nellie got locked in an empty house and the year before Merrick was shut in a garage and I only located them because I heard a tiny squeak in the dead of night.

All paws here crossed that you find her. xx

So sorry to hear Cheyenne is missing. I would try to be positive at the moment and keep putting food out for her - she is a very independent lady and obviously comfortable with a mainly outdoor life, so that as long as nothing has happened to her I reckon she'll be back as she will know where her grub and comforts are. As she's very shy of humans she's unlikely to have been taken by anyone and hopefully is not too nosy to get trapped where she shouldn't.

Keeping everything crossed for you that she will be back soon.

what a worry - I am guessing she would not respond to you calling her, or come to you if she saw you, so I think you need to concentrate on listening out for her crying somewhere, if she is trapped

it isn't easy with such a shy cat, but there is a good chance she will find her own way home, especially if you can lay a bit of a trail for her

Hello sorry to hear your beautiful girl cheyenne is missing.
Stay positive and keep doing everything to help bring her home.
You could try putting some items from home into the garden to help her find her way back . Her bedding, your bedding, some of her favourite food!
Keep looking everywhere for her in every little space you think she could be especially in your own and neighbouring gardens. Call her name and wait for a reply. If you don't hear a reply don't presume shes not hiding if scared keep looking!! Ask neighbours to check their gardens or even better ask if you can check them, noone will look as throughly as you!!
Keeping fingers crossed for her quick and safe return xx

Thank you furbies for your kind words of support. I am trying to stay positive but as the days go by the light at the end of the tunnel becomes dimmer. I am plagued by thoughts of what if. One very special furby who has been helping me with this has told me to stop beating myself up about it and I appreciate her advice. I pray every day for Cheyennes safe return.

Bless you, I know exactly how your feeling right now and its horrid.
Its still only been 4 days, theres plenty of time if shes got stuck somewhere or taken in by someone. Its very difficult the not knowing.
Keep looking absolutely every little place in her immediate teritory and asking neighbours if they've checked all their sheds etc.
Keeping fingers crossed for you and cheyenne xx

Furby is right, you really shouldn't beat yourself up about this. You are a very rare and special cat carer who took on an extremely shy cat and asked for nothing back from her. It's entirely possible that your love and care has given her the courage to roam further afield, which is hard for you but may feel like the right thing to her. All you can really do is keep looking, as you are, and hope that she knows where a warm bed, love and food are if she needs them. You really couldn't have done any more for her from the day you took her on. Thinking of you. xx

Although not positive for Cheyenne but in response to my lost notices that I have put about. I have had a number of calls from people spotting black cats. I got a call late last night from a gentleman who had a black cat that had been in his garden for several days and was now in his garage. It was only a couple of streets away so I was hopeful. Unfortunately it wasn't her. I asked the man what he intended doing with it. He said he would phone the RSPCA in the morning. Well as you may have guessed I offered to take it. This morning I took it to a local vet to see if was chipped. It was. It transpired he was called Ernie and hailed from a village 8 miles from here. I have left him in the tender care of the vet awaiting the owners collection. Just to add he was the most friendly cat I have ever come across.

Good gracious! Strayed 8 miles from home! How lucky for Ernie and his owners that you were alerted and found him. I do hope you can locate Cheyenne. Her picture is amazing as she comes across as a very substantial, hardy cat and the sort who would probably survive pretty well from hunting.

Like Kay I hope that one day you can add to your cat family a 'most friendly' cat - there must be many out there who are looking for the individual love and attention of a human. Cheyenne is very much a cat-who-walks-alone and a free spirit, but not all are and some really do want a warm lap and the special company that their own human can bring. My eldest girl, who is about 6 years old we think, was a rescued stray and although she can take care of herself outside her greatest joy is being in the warm with her humans. As I type this, on a gloomy damp day, I have one asleep on my bed, an ex-feral born kitten (now 2) asleep on 'Daddy's' chair, a skinny ex-stray who has not been well socialised on the window ledge, my big girly on the top of the cat tree and an ex-wild big male asleep also beside me in a wicker basket with a duster at the bottom for comfort. Peace reigns! Three of them are allowed out and could be outside but much prefer the warmth and comfort of home 8-)

Hi Jacks
Your posts regarding Cheyenne during the year + I had her, have been a great inspiration to me. I also take comfort from the support I have received from two other wonderful CC members who converse with me elsewhere especially in my maudlin moments. My biggest worry is that Cheyenne may be out there lost. But as you quite rightly say and I agree, she will have a forte for survival.
For me, apart from not knowing her fate, guilt is my biggest enemy. I am aware that no one could have tried harder to get through to her. But the what if's prevail. Also how long does one continue to hold onto hope a month, six months, a year?. At least when my previous furry Rudi was p.t.s.the story albeit sad had an ending. But thank you for your kind thoughts Jacks.

You can see the strength in Cheyenne's face, Mick. Although she may shun human company, it will not have been for want of you offering it to her. Hopefully that strength is serving her well at the moment. We all wish her to return to you, but also that you will find comfort - with or without Cheyenne - in the love of a furry who is by nature a loving, lap cat. You did an unselfish and challenging thing when Cheyenne came to live with you, and it's possible that not even the rescue knew exactly how unsocialised she was. Perhaps they assumed that since she had lived with humans before she would come round. Whatever the situation, you could not have tried harder with the little girl than you did, and as I have said elsewhere, it's possible that she was happier than she had ever been. I hope she is well and safe somewhere, I hope even more than she will come back home, but I also hope that you will forgive yourself (always the hardest thing) for anything thing you feel you have to forgive yourself over and allow yourself the love of a precious little one who longs for a daddy to truly love.

Oh Mick, you were amazing with Cheyenne, she may have just wandered away for a while, but please, I beg of you, do not feel any guilt for what has happened. No man could have ever done as much. and with so much patience and care as you did....please, pat yourself on the back, as we all would do to you, for persevering in such a difficult situation, personally, I would always read your posts and felt so much admiration for you, just see what happens and keep your heart open to another needy lap cat, who is just waiting for you to take them home.....what a lovely home they would have too...bless you...x

Hello, my daughters black cat disappeared,he is quite a scared little cat if he doesn't know you, no where to be seen , then 5 days later after numerous sleepless nights and no eating, being like zombies,, treking the area, posters on facebook/twitter/all cat sites.....posting notes through all letterboxes, with his photo...as all black cats don't !!! look the same :0) he appeared, he must have been locked in, as he smelt musty,

have you asked postie/ and better still any window cleaners to keep a look out, also we looked in all the empty houses & garages, outbuildings, and especially ones with catflaps, have any houses gone up for sale/rent around the time she went missing? or was anything happening in the local area on that night,do you have any schools nearby, ?

hoping she comes home soon ...

Hi nannymcfee. That is very good advice. Unfortunately living as I do on a large housing estate she could have gone in many directions. All of the houses have enclosed back gardens thus making it impossible to know which ones may have cat flaps. Even the empty ones. I've done the flyer/Facebook bit. Again unfortunately the postmen around here is rarely the same person each week. As for window cleaners I see one maybe once in 6 months. I take heart that your daughters cat returned home after 5 days away and that you have taken time to answer my post. The local council tell me no domestic animals were recovered from my area last Friday. It is only left for me to ask the weekly refuse collection men tomorrow, if they saw anything. Many thanks your input is very much appreciated.

thats something else we did, look in the dustbins just before it was collection day time, just in case he had been balancing on an empty bin with an opened lid, and it had shut..... you begin to think of anything and everything don't you.....

if there are houses to rent/sale recently, could you make a note of estate agents/letting agents, and leave them a poster too at their offices,

as for going into gardens/scrambling over locked gates at my age!!!!...and peering through the windows....ha!!!! i can imagine the looks we got, surprised police didn't appear....but needs must.
