Re: My cat is missing - Eastwick (Found)
Sami had another vet visit today, he's doing great...the surgeon has stretched the skin and sowed it up (80%] and is hopeful he won't need a skin graft but will see.

Sami update...he's doing really well, put on some weight. The surgeon is very happy with how it's going, but Sami will still need a bandage on for a few weeks

That's very encouraging. At this rate, the vet will soon be complaining Sami is overweight!

Oh poor chap - is it the 'cone of shame'? They hate them.
I've never used these but have heard good reports of 'comfy collars' which are a sort of inflatable doughnut shaped thingy that serves the same purpose as a cone but is easier on the cat - about the worst time of the year to recommend this unless you're willing to brave the pet supermarket hell (IF they stock them) or feeling rich enough to pay extra delivery charge to get it tomorrow - Amazon pets section still offers next day delivery; I would post you a link but the damn computer won't let me.
All the very best with him and lots of fusses and commiserations, he's been so brave and I can imagine he's now very convalescent and cross in his cone, poor old lad x

Re: My cat is missing - Eastwick (Found)
The vet put it on him to let the wound heal...but it's bleeding a bit and he can still lick it...we've tried to tape it up a bit to stop him (but he can still breath and eat) I think if he can still lick it tomorrow/not calmed down I'll tell mum to take him back and get the vet to look again. But thanks I'll look on Amazon for ideas.Lilith wrote:Oh poor chap - is it the 'cone of shame'? They hate them.

He's not impressed at all bless him, but he's sleeping now...but he was struggling in the tray so mum took it out...but we can just wash the bottom of the cage
Have a great Christmas x

Thank you. I'll keep you posted. He's getting used to the collar and can't lick the wound now so hopefully it will heal. Thank you for the fuss and ear rubs. I'll past them on. Aww I'm glad he's settling a bit - it's just occurred to me, would newspaper or a puppy pad be ok in his crate if he hates the tray? Make cleaning up a bit easier.
Hope you have a great Christmas too x

Thank you. He's much calmer today. We have newspaper down now. I put his tray in and he's used it. It's not he hated it. He's was just stressed with the cone. He's always been good with the tray. Sorry if that wasn't clearLilith wrote:Aww I'm glad he's settling a bit - it's just occurred to me, would newspaper or a puppy pad be ok in his crate if he hates the tray? But I'll just leave newspapers overnight.
What's a puppy pad?
Thank you. Talk again soon Jane x

Re: My cat is missing - Eastwick (Found)
Ah sorry, thought you meant that it was bothering him having to have his tray next to his bed.
Puppy pads are a posh improvement on newspaper - I've never had a puppy since they brought them out but it is just that - an absorbent pad that you train the pup to use. And easy to bundle up into a binbag afterwards.
All the best with the lad x

Re: My cat is missing - Eastwick (Found)
Sorry to hear you have had a bit of bother with Sami having to wear a collar. I am glad that Tilly was a very good girl with her stitches so I never had to bother with a cone, so haven't any experience on how to deal with this sort of problem.

Re: My cat is missing - Eastwick (Found)
Another little update -
Sami went back to the vet on Thursday...and was kept there as the surgeon was happy to try and sow up the top part of the wound...ends up he managed to sow up the whole wound...there was enough skin.
His right leg has healed perfectly, and you can't see where the fracture was (they may or may not take out the plate)
His left leg is healing, but the surgeon had slight concern about an area of bone - there may be an infection or it may be dead bone (both of which can be dealt with) Sami is on stronger antibiotics now, alongside the other tablets until they run out...he can walk about in a closed room(although I think I'll do this in a couple of days...to help the stitching...although there is still a chance he may end up loosing the leg still (but I don't think that will happen)
Well that's about it for now, and we haven't got to go back for three weeks..

That's really good news! Thanks for updating us. Now you'll just hav to keep him in and quite until he has healed completely! Good luck with that one!
