Millie (with heart failure) had to say goodbye today : (

Post by Natcat »

Hello

I"ve had to say goodbye to my lovely, lovely Millie today. She was 18 years old but had heart failure and kidney disease so was a poorly girl.

I do know that I made the right decision but I feel dreadful right now and just keep bursting into tears. She was rushed to the vets a week ago with heart failure but recovered and on her diuretics she came home and has been extremely well all week . She did however stick by my side the whole time so maybe that was a little sign in itself that she didn't have much longer left.

She was fine this morning but then her back legs suddenly collapsed. I knew that this meant a blood clot but the vet told me it was just a warning one and that she wasn't in much pain but that if I took her back home it would certainly happen again and be much worse. Well I couldn't put her through that and the vet advised it would be kinder for her to go now.

She went very peacefully.

It will take a little while for me to be peaceful though

Thanks for listening and best wishes to all of your lovely kitties - they are something to be treasured xxx

I'm so sorry you couldn't save Millie - you fought really hard for her - but I'm glad you had that last week with her to have some good memories to treasure - my Trigger chose as his final sick bed the one place I could reach him easily to fuss him, so perhaps they do know, and want us to have those final days to remember without sorrow

I'm so very sorry, I hope knowing you did your very best does give you some comfort but it doesn't stop you missing them terribly. I lost my old Minnie at 19 a few weeks ago and I still miss her. They both made fine old ages, and were much loved. That counts for something. (((hugs)))

Rest in peace much loved Millie. xx

Natalie, what a time it's been the last few days . . Millie and Hamish will be meeting up with everyone at the bridge, no more pain, just peace, you did a wonderful thing for Millie, I understand the hurt, but bless you for putting her first and giving her a life of love . . . X

Natalie, so sorry to hear about your lovely Millie.

I'm sure we both did the right thing letting them go peacefully, I hope Millie and Hamish have met up at the bridge where they will be young again, free from any pain or suffering.

It's such a terrible time but the support on here really helps, take care of yourself and in time remember Millie with a smile rather than tears. She was a very lucky cat to be loved so much.

I'm so sorry to hear this. Without doubt you did the right thing at the right time, but even so, it's still so hard to say goodbye to them. This is the worst part of sharing your life, heart and home with a furry friend. ((hugs))

Thank you everybody - it is such a comfort to be able to come on here knowing that everyone understands and that there is so much lovely support.

For those of you who are on here lots - you do a fantastic job in listening and helping :)

I'm so sorry to hear about little Kenzie at only 16 months old, my thoughts go out to you x

I'm feeling a bit better than yesterday and I know with time it will get easier and I'm certain I did the right thing. I have to say my little kitty Marmalade is finding it quite tough. She's been searching for Millie in every room and being quite clingy bless her. She's only 3 and has never lived without another cat so I guess she will find it strange for a while.

Thanks again everyone xxx

Bobby was like that for a while after we 'lost' his adoptive mum, Lily.

He clings to me now - and that's just fine :D

Ok thank you Joanne. Marmalade is getting used to not having Millie around now. I still miss her of course, it's just every now and then something reminds me of her and I feel sad.

I just keep visualising her all young and well again playing with my Molly cat that I lost 2 years ago. We rescued them both at the same time and in their younger fitter days they were very close and playful. So now they are together again and that brings me lots of comfort.

Thanks so much for asking Joanne :)

I'm so sorry about Millie - we lost Max on Thurs with the same problem. It's so hard to watch them suffer and you know it's the last kindness you can do for them but it doesn't make it any easier. Take care x
