I'm Back

Post by Kate and Gang »

Hi Everyone,

I've just registered a new account so I'm back :D

I just can't do my avatar photo on at the moment (not sure how to resize on an iPad!) but I'll get there.

Lots of love,

Kate, Sir Nicholas and Princess Layla xxx

Thanks, I was so sorry to hear about Maxine too - it was around the same time I lost Peaches if I remember correctly now. I didn't know it was oral cancer (like my Alpha) - it's a dreadful thing. Tough times. (((hugs)))

Daz is doing really well, he's absolutely loved hunting in the new garden (they all have - I've even seen toothless Nellie sucking on a mouse!) so has kept the weight off and (touch wood) has been peeing OK for well over a year now. I've still got him on maintenance Cystophan, just in case, and lots of water. He sends head-butts back. How is the lovely Sir Nickerless, still peeing and terrorising the neighbourhood? :D

Pugwash arrived as an emergency foster cat, an elderly stray handed into my vets filthy and half-starved around November. He's wormed his way into our hearts and the rescue have agreed he can stay as a permanent foster, like Basil. The whole saga is on the 'Ooops one more foster' thread just below this one ......... if you have a free half hour .... and a cup of coffee!

Same as Alpha and my Star sadly :( It was a long process with Max as it started with ulcers in her mouth which were thought to have been an allergic reaction to the bacteria on her teeth (some of which were very bad) so she had an operation to have all her teeth out except the front ones ... She recovered well but soon stopped eating again (obviously she had had a full screening before her op and nothing unusual or nasty came up) ... a couple of weeks later my vet and I noticed a mass on her lower jaw - which wasn't there before - and her bottom front tooth had become loose so she went in as an emergency to have the tooth removed and an x-ray which showed the mass but was inconclusive. My vet didn't want to do anything else as her jaw had become so weak so we treated it as an infection. She was on Antirobe for a month but had given up trying to eat anything by that point. The mass had got bigger, not smaller and Maxine had just had enough so we made the decision to let her go. Me, my vet and the nurse were heartbroken and all three of us sobbed once the decision had been made - Laura and Adele had got very attached to her! She's at peace now and with her best friend ... I'm grateful for that and that she had a fantastic 14 years with me :) x

I'm so pleased to hear Daz is doing well! Nicholas is 17 now and he's calmed down considerably - he's become very placid and I think he's starting to lose his iron rule over the neighbourhood! His cystitis is under control (touch wood) although he doesn't have C/D biscuits anymore. He still has Cystease in his food everyday. He's happy pottering around but mainly likes to sleep and be loved :)

I really had forgot how much I missed your little gang! The thought of Nellie sucking a mouse has made me laugh out loud! :) And Pugwash, beautiful Pugwash - what a heart warming story x They really are a huge credit to you, all of them xx

If you want to email me then I'll send you a few up to date pics! I can't resize them to put on here as I don't know how to do it my iPad!

Thank you booktigger ... Maxine was my world, as all our cats are. I always smile now when thinking of her! She was an amazing little thing and I'm so grateful for the years we had together ... thank you x

It's good that you can smile about her, I can with Molly, but can't talk about her without getting upset. To have 8.5 years with her when I took her on thinking she had weeks/months left to live showed her determination, and you can't help but be happy for being fortunate to have that amount of time with them.

I know what you mean ... I can't physically talk about my two beautiful girls without getting upset but their memory is amazing!

Layla is my only girl now and I've got to say she's loving her new top position and loving having all the attention! She's very happy and her and Nicholas have become quite close :)

Who's in your little family now?

Gosh, I feel so out of touch with everyone so apologies if it takes me a bit of time to catch up and get up to date! x

Hi Kate

Welcome back !

I lost my boy 'CC' to oral cancer in October of 2013, we had to take him on his final trip to the vets within a week of diagnosis, we truly believed it was just a bad tooth at the time, the shock to us was devastating, it was heartbreaking.

I subsequently adopted a rescue cat from Blue Cross, he is an older boy "at least 8 years old.." was wrote in his notes !! :) His name is Barney, or 'Barnes' to his friends !! He is as playful as a kitten and an absolute spoilt Diva !!

Glad that you have returned ...x

Hi Julie

So sorry to hear about CC x I remember him x My vet told me that Oral Cancer can be very aggressive and happens very quickly - apparently it's very hard to see any symptoms until it's got to the point of no return! It's nasty :(

Loving Barney though! At least 8 years old ... :) Funny .... He sounds like he's made himself right at home!

Hello Kate, awww really sorry to hear about your lovely Maxine, i also remember when you lost beautiful Star.

I too rejoined recently..i have SAD & health problems, and needed cheering up,

since you were last on here, i have hmm seem to have been adopted by another black cat, who was an older very skinny lost soul but had been TNR when he turned up, he is now a very very large cat.

I cannot remember how to resize photos either , any links please....

Have you moved house, as i knew you really wanted to / and what became of the neighbours from h**l

Awww, sorry to hear about your health problems x

Has the very large black cat got a name? :)

I didn't move in the end as I couldn't afford it but the neighbours from hell did a midnight flit after not paying rent for several months, leaving the house in a right state. The landlady has learnt a tough lesson and it's cost her a fortune! I now have a lovely lady living there ... She's in her 40’s, single, a teaching assistant and has a 17 year old black cat with a white moustache called Lucky. We get on really well and I never hear a peep out of her :) Unfortunately, the awful neighbours only moved around the corner but at least they aren't my problem anymore! They've been in a lot of trouble with police and various things have happened as a result ... what goes around and all that ;) Apparently the woman has complained to other neighbours that her new neighbours are too noisy! That really made me smile :) x

Haaa serves the neighbours right, i too believe whats goes around ,comes around.

How nice that after all the trouble, you now have a neighbour who is a like minded lady, in same working environment, and has a cat!!!! i bet you sleep so much better and no dreading waiting for the noise to start.

New lodger is called Luca Montalbano :D

I've just got Buster now, despite all his health issues, he keeps going! His official age is nearly 18, he acts like 18 months! Still fostering, got mum and 6 kittens at the moment.

OH Kate, it made me so sad to read about poor Maxine - it must have been an awful time, I know how much you loved her. xx

It's funny how the relationships change and develop, I'm glad Layla has come into her own, and Sir Nickerless sounds quite the Grand Old Man now. I can't believe he's 17!!

I've kept Daz on the C/D dry - as he's doing well I'm too scared to change anything. I also up his dose of Cystophan if I feel he might get stressed - now that I take on foster cats, I'm very aware of how that might affect him. Even though they are in an outdoor pen and the spare room, there has been the odd one that I've thought might end up staying (like Pugwash) and has been down to meet the gang. Actually, Daz seems to quite like it when strange girlies turn up in the outdoor pen as he starts hanging out round there!

I'm glad you no longer have neighbour problems - that really does sound like karma! :D
