Need help finding calorie counts for wet and dry cat food

Hi,

I left my cat with a dear & doting friend while I traveled, and now my beautiful sweetheart has put on weight and looks chubby! I would like to get her back to looking trim, but I do not want to under-feed her too much.

I am living in Italy, and I customarily feed her a Purina wet food called Gourmet Gold (3oz cans) and a bit of dry food called Ultima (which I gather is called Affinity in some other countries), and I ordinarily buy the formula for hairball control. I have searched for the calorie counts for these products, and can't find them.

If anyone has any idea of the calorie counts for these products, or knows of where I could get that information onine, I would very much appreciate it.

Also, if any one has any experience with helping a cat to lose weight, please feel free to chime in. It is quite hot here at the moment, and that is discouraging activity and play as well. But I do want to get this weight off, gradually. Fortunately she is a youngish, healthy cat, so she should be able to do a diet if it is not extreme.

Lovely cat! The easiest way to start is to cut down on the dry food, which is usually much more calorific than the wet.

Yes, and she knows it too! I'm sure she wants to return to her svelte form. She is a small cat, and I don't think the plumpness is comfortable for her. Plus, it's hot here!

I will give her more wet food and less dry, which she will love me all the more for. I have since found some info online that confirms what you have said about the lower calorie profile of the wet food, plus some good details about how to mildly undershoot her calorie intake given her present weight, without starving her.

When my Daz had bladder problems he needed to lose weight, and I found that the tablespoon of water I was adding to his wet food to help flush his bladder through was also serving to 'fill him up' and make him happier with a little less food. Just a thought.

You may want to consider switching to the light version, or even another brand. Although Ultima/Affinaity, is quite good quality, it does also contain quite a lot of cereals, which are higher in calories.
