Dental & subsequent biscuit intolerance

Post by Shelly and Dora »

Hi all.

Just over a week and a half ago Dora went in for a dental and came out with 13 less teeth than she arrived with.

I won't bore you with the story but it now seems her tummy can't tolerate biscuits. Our vet says cats are either crunchers or swallowers and it seems that Dora is a cruncher! So although she has been happily tucking into her dozen or so biscuits after her Lily's wet, her tummy is rejecting them shortly afterwards. She's never been a grazer and food isn't left down for her because I need to monitor her weight because of her arthritis however she is a very routine led little girl and always asks for her biscuits after her wet.

For a week after having the teeth removed I was replacing her biscuits with the natures menu freeze-dried raw cubes that easily crumble to give a biscuity texture. I was mixing these with water and Dora really loves them. These seem to stay in her tummy with no issues.

I wonder whether anybody has any other alternative suggestions of a biscuit type replacement that has a low calorific content.

Both Dora and I would really appreciate your thoughts.

Thanks, Shelly

Kay thank you for your reply but my babygirl is only 7!

Shes a happy. healthy little indoor girl who still loves to dash about, climb her cat trees and generally keeping me on my toes!

The arthritis probably made it slightly misdleading. She was diagnosed with it when she was 5 and in the last 2.5 years I've managed to get her off her daily dose of Metacam and Gabapentin and the only medication she has is an Easeflex Gloucosamine chew each night. She has lots of heat pads, memory foam pads and heated beds. You wouldn't know she has arthritis YAYYYYYYY! The weight gain is something we must avoid to keep things on an even keel.

Thank you though. For when shes a bit older and slower the link looks purrfect!

You could try royal canin gastro intestinal moderate calorie- everyone here is on either that or hills zd for being intolerant, overweight, pancreatic problems and gummy!
They are easily digested small pieces.

My Pugwash is doing well on RC Gastro Intestinal biscuits, though we're trying to get weight on him so haven't tried the moderate calorie version. He's lost almost all his teeth - just three canines left.

I'm glad she's otherwise recovered well from her op, give her a fuss from me. xx

One of mine is on Hills Z/D prescription food, which is ultra allergen free. I describe it like pate! It's very soft and slimey, might be good? The vet is concerned it is browning his teeth though so maybe not ideal. He has seaweed sprinkled on top at the moment to try and help with the plaque and I'm brushing his teeth when I can.
