Hi, I am posting to see if anyone else has had a similar situation with a loved furry friend.
My 8 year old neutered boy with no history of any health problems has over the last few weeks developed a larger than normal tummy. He was usually quite lean and fit looking. Blood tests show all to be normal, but brief scan shows pockets of fluid and abnormalities. He is otherwise bright, eating normally and still goes off on his daily rounds of the neighbourhood. He is not quite as active as he has been. He is due to get a more in depth scan next week. The vet took off a tiny bit of fluid to make sure it wasn't blood and it wasn't. As with all our furry friends, he is much loved, and I am very anxious about him. The vet cant at this stage identify where or what the abnormalities are and he is regularly wormed.
Any thoughts? Thank you for your time in looking at my post.
Amanda

Hi Amanda, welcome to Cat Chat! It's good that he's having a scan next week. Is that an ultrasound or something else?

Hi, thanks for reply.
It's a diagnostic ultrasound he's having. Vet has said it will pinpoint what may be inside his tummy, but not what it is and that he may need exploratory surgery as the next step. Taking it one step at a time just now and just about holding it together!

Re: Fluid in tummy
Our Flo had something similar when she was 8 but got very, very poorly before our vet finally referred her to a vet hospital for an ultrasound. On the ultrasound, it looked like a huge tumour, but the consultant said it could be an infection. We decided to let them do exploratory surgery and they found an infection in the lining of the abdomen which they flushed out. She recovered completely and is still with us 10 years later.
I hope they find out what's wrong with your boy and he has a speedy recovery.

Thank you for your reply! You will know what we are going through - glad you had a great outcome, I have fingers and toes crossed for our Milo. He was out this morning "helping" our one year old Maine Coon with a mouse, so he is still so interested in life. I am just hoping for an outcome as good as yours. I will update when I know. Thanks.

Re: Fluid in tummy
Well, our boy has congestive heart failure - not what I was expecting at all, and pretty devistated. he is on medication now and we will see how that goes. Am going to start a new thread to see if anyone has been in the same situation. Two lots of pills twice a day, but one is to take the fluid away so at least his breathing will be helped with that. Day at a time I think.
