large nose

Post by jenniferozzy »

Hi all

My kittens nose ( 8 months old ) has been growing slowly over last few months..i thought it was just the way she looked but tonight it was bigger than ever

Took her vets who said hes never seen this before in his whole 23 years of being a vet

Her glands are up so shes on antibiotics to see if its an infection if it dosent help..biopsy time

Anyone seen anything similar as cant find anything on the web

Cryptococcosis can cause a swollen nose and lymph nodes. It's something cats can catch from pigeon droppings.
Other than that maybe a food allergy?
Good luck hope you get to the bottom of it!

Do you know her history? It can take a long time to grow so could be something she was exposed to as a kitten?
I run a rescue and had a stray come in and her nose grew and grew for months until she looked hideous as it covered her face, vets were baffled until a new vet walked in and diagnosed straight away.

This is just a google pic but is similar to what mine looked like, some appear as open sores and some grow like this.

Poor baby! I have never seen this before. She really has been through the wars. I hope you can sort this out for her soon, so she can start to enjoy her new life with you.

Hi yes the little cat I had with it had some special medication the vets had to order in from some specialist or something and once she finished it she was right as rain and eventually re homed (she was a foster cat), it's quite easy to test for, I think it can be swab or blood test.

I wonder if it would make sense to call the vet and mention the Cryptococcosis to him so he can google it in the meantime. If he agrees it may be that, he may actually ask you to come back earlier to get treatment started asap ;)

i spoke to him but he advised to wait until tuesday to see if whatever it is responds to antibiotics then he will take a small amount of cells from her nose to diagnose that way

so glad shes insured!!!

Yes that's fab that you have insurance as I remember the meds being quite costly.

Hope it continues to get better, but it still looks big. The fact that the vet had no clue what this is i would definatey investigate further, especially as you are insured. Wee soul, fingers crossed and keep us posted.
