Hi all, thanks for your lovely messages and support!

The new IM vet visited Pallina yesterday and had a thorough look at all her reports, listened to her whole story, was amazed that she got the radio-iodine treatment (the first cat he ever saw) and all she did.
He said that Pallina is in severe conditions, she lost more weight in the last days. She was dehydrated despite the water she was drinking and the sub-Qs I was doing.

After thinking a bit he told we had only two choices.
The first choice: trying another antibiotic in the case she had a bacteria infection and that the current antibiotic isn't the proper one.
The second choice: doing a biopsy of the liver and taking a sample of bile. This would require that Pallina is put under anesthesia. This would be the greatest risk due to her conditions (bad liver and chest fluids).

I chose the second option, at least I will have done everything, and I will have no regrets for not trying.
The vet told me that she could not survive the hospitalization, left alone the surgery. I accepted the risk, after all she is wasting herself anyway.

Later this afternoon I will have an update and a precise estimate, that is going to be a high one!

I don't know if I'm taking her back home... :(

Hi all,
it seems there are good news, but I'm still cautious.

On the day before the surgery for the biopsy, the vet ran an ultrasound scan and found out something that other vets, with other scans, hadn't seen, a malformation of the bile duct between the gallbladder and the duodenum.
According to the vet this was the root of the problem and proposed to correct this anomaly during the same surgery, and I agreed, knowing that it was a high risk operation and that Pallina could have not survive.

The surgery took place on Friday, Pallina survived the surgery, and now she's slowly recovering from it. Still not out of the woods, but we're hoping she can get through it.
I'll see her today.

We're waiting for the results for the biopsy and the bile aspiration sample. They should come in around August 15th.

Keep your fingers and tails crossed, please!

I'm so glad she has got through the operation, I was getting worried that no update from you meant bad news. Am sure she will be glad to see you today, when can she come home?

Well. Perhaps that is it, they've found the culprit at last. The miracle of the modern scan. I do hope this will give her a chance of getting back to proper health.

Yes, everything still crossed and so glad she made it through the op, fusses and congrats :)

My dear friends,
Thanks so much for your last messages of support and encouragement.

I'm sorry for my long silence, I've been away for a few days...

Unfortunately I have to tell you that Pallina has gone to the Rainbow Bridge :(
She left me in the first hours of last Wednesday, August 8th, 2018, at the age of 17 years, 3 months and 5 days.
She left a huge void in our home, the place is cold, void, silent, unreal.
Her things are still there, as if she was coming back home any minute.

The surgery and the biopsy went well. She spent the next 72 hours at the hospital and then came home, on Monday.
Then on Tuesday at noon she didn't feel well and I rushed her at the clinic again. They gave her some fluids and after a few hours they sent her home. The vets agreed for a blood transfusion on the next morning, but we didn't make it... :(
She passed away here at home, but I wasn't with her... I checked on her twice during the night. The first time she was still there, the next time she was gone.

I'm still waiting for the reports from the biopsy, but I think I won't need it, I won't know what to do with it!

I wish to thank you all for the support, the friendship, the advice and the words of love and endearment for me and Pallina during these last months.
I won't ever be thankful enough for all you did and said for us.

You have all been wonderful, do not change, you're perfect.
Kiss your kitties every day!

Very sad to read this news, Antonio. You did all you could for Pallina, but alas, they all eventually succumb to old age and we can do no more.

Oh Antonio, I'm so very sorry to hear this.

I can relate to how you feel; my Emily left me a week last Monday.

The grief is awful - but at least we knew them and had the pleasure of their company.

Hugs to you and your wife x

Hello Antonio please accept my deepest sympathies on the Pallina’s passing. Please if you feel as though you need to post, need support do so. This forum has the most understanding & supportive members. While we “talk” via technology I feel very connected to many here who post. Be gentle with yourselves & while Pallina’s passing has left you physically & your lives feel empty, she will always be with you in your hearts. RIP little Pallina & I pray that one day we will all meet at that special “Rainbow Bridge”. Vivian.

I am so sorry to hear the news Antonio. I have been a bit preoccupied with Freddie and now Purdy, but I have been following Pallina's fight.

Although you were not by her side, it was nice that she passed at home in familiar surroundings. RIP little one.
