Cat nose Cancer or injury?

Post by UKS »

Hi guys

Our Cat went missing for 4 days and came back on 5th day, but with abscessed injuries.

I took her to vet and he gave antibiotic pills for a month.
The next day I noticed a hole on her nose, and I thought it must be an injury.

Today I noticed most of her nose till her upper lip gone, it looked like it was eaten away. And I noticed her nose is very pale, and there is pink color discharge from her eyes and some discharge from nose, also she is having difficulty breathing.

I sent a picture to a friend and he said it is nose cancer.

I took her to the Vet, he said it is a serious infection but not cancer and gave Dexamethasone tablets for 10 days.

Please check the images and let me know what you think.

Thank you.

I would say infection based on the timing, how old is she? I had a cat eith pre cancerous scabs and the vet said nose cancer is rare in this country. It looks very nasty, I hope it isn't cancer and she improves

Thank you for the quick reply.

She is 14 months old. I hope the same, it just got worse in 3 days.

She is active and eating good. I can't find more experienced Vet in our area, hence my worry with his Diagnosis.

At that age, I'd sway more to infection. Fingers crossed

You mention she came back with abscesses, so it is likely that there was an abscess on the site of that injury and it got opened up and which cleaned it out a bit. It would make the wound look worse and larger, but in the long run in the best thing as it can start to heal now.

Hopefully it is just a wound and will heal well.

I've had a cat with skin cancer on the nose planum, it was a scab not an abcess or anything eaten away. Cancers are normally growths not holes. If the vet has examined the cat and says not cancer I would trust that above - sorry, but basically some guy in the pub which unless your friend is a vet and has examined the cat is what your friend is being. It isn't extremely rare in this country but it's unlikely to eat away a hole in a cat's face in a few days. Trust your instincts not your worst nightmares, and trust a vet with 8 years training above a friend with a picture.

She's also far too young to have such a cancer, I would suggest.

Thank you guys for your inputs.

I ended up taking her to a Government Veterinary hospital which a bit far from my home.

They took a head X-ray, and said there is a small fracture on her Nose bone, which will eventually heal by itself.

She is much better now.

Doctor said the Nose will not regenerate, but we are very glad she is ok.

She is one of the 9 Cats in our house, at first other Cats were running away from her including her sister and mother.

They are not playing with her like they used to, but now hanging out and eating with her.
