Indoor cat exercise

Post by Hoot »

Looking for some advice from folks with indoor cats. I have two young male (neutered) cats. I recently moved from an urban area where they where indoor/outdoor to a mountain community. There are predators here (coyotes, mountain lions, etc.) and I have been advised to keep the boys indoors at all times. Needless to say, they're not happy about this and are constantly nagging me to let them out so they can't hunt. There is a plentiful population of squirrels and chipmunks frolicking just outside the windows that they can see. I'm concerned about them getting exercise and staying mentally healthy. I have an elevated deck that I let them out on for fresh air but they have figured out how to get down to the ground. I've purchased cat trees and a variety of toys but their desire to be outside hunting is their obsession. Any suggestions are appreciated.
