Hi James, I did the survey anyway despite being a dog owner now (only recently) but I found a lot of the video very confusing.
For one thing I would never walk towards a dog in the way shown. Secondly some of the body language is extremely confusing - when the dog lifts its paw it looks like it is taking a step back, for example. Very difficult to do with an animated dog. But done, anyway.

Hi
The points you raise are all valid and good points. So I agree that the method of movement isn't quite realistic, but we need to do this to ensure all behaviours were captured and also tricky due to simulated camera angle.
I can see how the paw raise can be seen as a step back. - We have developed a VR model which is much easier to tell. So we will compare VR to Videos.
Thanks for your feedback and taking part much appreciated.

I've completed it and I have to agree with Molly cat, the way you approached the dog was entirely unlike I would and the way the dog reacted didn't seem very good, I found I was watching it's shadow more than the dog to try and see more of it's body language.
A couple of other comments that, unless you do any more surveys, may never be needed. The video would have been much more immersive if I had been able to go full screen on it, a tiny picture with a lot of white padding around it did not help at all.
Secondly, the video wasn't set up for browser zoom functions, which being partially sighted meant it was really hard to read the instructions for the video (fortunately they were fairly simple), this is also why not being able to have the video full screen, meant I couldn't see the dog's facial reactions will.
I've added a screen shot taken at the size i would normally have the text so I can read it, so you can appreciate the problem the zoom caused, and maybe it is something to pass on to anyone who might organise such surveys in the future to ensure you get a wide an audience able to participate as possible.

Thanks for your feedback, so originally we asked everyone to complete on there PC's only as the video were larger and easier to view. However, as many people ignored this (possibly i didn't make it clear enough) we expanded to allow all devices. I agree it would be much better that the whole screen would have been better. But I don't think the survey software allowed this.Ruth B wrote: ↑Mon Dec 07, 2020 10:13 am I've completed it and I have to agree with Molly cat, the way you approached the dog was entirely unlike I would and the way the dog reacted didn't seem very good, I found I was watching it's shadow more than the dog to try and see more of it's body language.

I appreciate its not ideal. But a starting point.
Thanks for your feedback.

You are right regarding the zoom function this is something I will pass on to the survey software people.Ruth B wrote: ↑Mon Dec 07, 2020 10:13 am I've completed it and I have to agree with Molly cat, the way you approached the dog was entirely unlike I would and the way the dog reacted didn't seem very good, I found I was watching it's shadow more than the dog to try and see more of it's body language.

It should be available to all.

Just to add that I was using a pc with 24" monitor when I took the survey, and the screenshot is from that. I was also using Google Chrome as my browser, I know different browsers do render things differently, so it might be relevant.
