I adopted two rescue kittens about seven weeks ago from a local no kill shelter. Both have feline herpes and came with the sniffles and some clavimox. They were 8 months and 4 months old when I got them. The 8 month old, Luna had the worse infection and she is still struggling with symptoms of what I think might be a bacterial infection. Luna has been on three rounds of two different antibiotics and was given vitamin c at her last vet appointment. Each time she is medicated her symptoms begin to clear up for the first several days of meds and either persist mildly or begin to come back before the week is up. I understand that a cat with a herpes flare up will sneezes, but have read that green mucus indicates a secondary bacterial infection. When her symptoms get bad she has these horrible reverse sneezes that seem to last forever, she will wheeze and breath loudly, she will blow green and sometimes slightly bloody snot rockets all over the place, and her breath starts to smell like something in her mouth is rotting (not a dental issue). Luna has had a very good appetite and has gained several pounds since she has arrived which is a great sign though. She is playful, although has a bit more stamina and energy when she first begins a round of antibiotics. However I am very worried about this infection that she just can’t seem to get rid of and I really don’t know how long this was going on before I got her. I have almost had her two months and she’s been sick this whole time!
It has been three weeks since her last antibiotics and about a week since her regiment of vitamin c ended. Her symptoms are getting worse. Last time I took her to the vet he said to just let the virus run its course. But if the mucus is green is that still a virus? I don’t want this to develop into pneumonia or something more serious than whatever this is. Luna is such a wonderful and sweet kitten I really want to see her feel better.
Any thought or advise would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much!!

If you have put diatomaceous earth on your kittens or around your home, that might not be helping.

No I have not used that in a long time and obviously not with this cat based on the symptoms. I am currently working with a new vet with great medical expertise.
