Whaat???

I live in Wakefield too! But on the outskirts of the town centre. Now if my George was still alive I'd swear it was him (he used to take his holidays in Bodmin lol.) Never heard of this critter before.

I'd be interested, though, to know exactly what people have seen. Many years ago, sitting on my front doorstep on a warm night, during the time when my cats did roam, I was amazed to see a 'large cat' appear out of the ginnel opposite. Then I realised it had a very thin neck and a large bushy tail...an urban fox! But for a moment I did think it was an extra-big cat.

Good luck with the rehoming if it does come your way lol :D

Shame i cannot find the image i sent to the Examiner in 2005 when a Black cat was spotted, i have a Large toy Puma, so i stuck him in a garden chair relaxing , added sunglasses/put him a Town shirt on and had him reading Examiner paper...

Was hoping for the £500.. .They printed it in paper with the following:

Byline: By Denis Kilcommons

When readers reported sightings of a black panther in Meltham and Linthwaite, the Examiner offered a pounds 500 reward for anyone who could provide photographic evidence of the beast.

The proviso was that the picture had to show that it was taken locally in the Huddersfield area and that the photograph was not faked.

Elaine Wood of Hopton has sent this snap.

"This is a black panther I captured on film," she said. "No one can say he isn't local - he's wearing a Town shirt."

Elaine also has a Puma, but that's her car.

"The area where the cat can be found is Hopton.

"Does this mean I won't get the pounds 500?"

Experts are currently studying the photograph, Elaine, to make sure it is no fake and that it was taken locally.

But don't hold your breath
