Ear mites?

Post by exlibris »

We're suspicious Backy has ear mites! His ears are always grubby, even though my other half regularly cleans them. Our other cat, Twitch, doesn't have this problem.
Does anyone know of something I can use that doesn't need a prescription? Backy is 14, but he doesn't have any regular medicine or health problems (except from being dozy :D ), we dose him with Effipro spot on flea treatment regularly, but that's it. Any suggestions?

Hi there - I had an old chap with mucky ears and I went round to the vet and asked if they could sell me some drops - and they did, without insisting I brought him in for examination. I'm not a great vet-goer (touch wood!) but they're a small friendly place and the stuff they sold me worked very well (I'm extremely sorry, but I can't remember its name.) Better than choosing something at random off the shelf at the local pet supermarket although there are some good sites online like Viovet.

So I'd recommend a friendly vet as a good starting point.

Good luck with Backy, bless him. I still remember the gummy 'bites' Finn used to give me...'stop faffing with me ears, woman!'
