Happy Bonfire Night to all in the UK.

Hopefully all pets are safely indoors and no-one is too frightened by the fireworks, having had one cat that was scared of them it really is a relief to have three that are totally unbothered, as hopefully you can see from the photos.

Main firework event of the evening has just finished, thank goodness. Here is Tilly pretending not to care!

Still, things are much better than they used to be. 20 years ago, Sally would have been hiding in the bottom of the wardrobe for the past week because of all the stray fireworks let off in the street.

Yes, we are all tucked up in the warm; I'm lucky too in that none of this lot are nervous, not even Emily, who would have spent her first bonfire night, at 4 months old, in a derelict garage or on the streets

There's a public display due to happen here soon in the park, which is only a few hundred yards away, but at least that's a known quantity; I often watch it standing on the bedroom windowsill, I like fireworks, I have to admit, but what IS irritating, especially for people with nervous animals, is the winter-long random letting off of really noisy fireworks at all hours; the other week we were treated to a bombardment at 4 am...ok for me; the cats didn't turn a hair and I was awake anyway, but for people who need to get up for work or have a nervous cat or dog...nightmare

Lovely photo's folks. I had to look at the date on the 'pooter as I forgot it was bonfire night. It is something that is just not done over here (notice I didn't say 'celebrated'!) Halloween was the biggy around here, but a few years back they changed the rules about the sale of fireworks. You have to buy a permit now, to buy the fireworks. So that has cut right back on their use. Me and the cats don't mind a bit.

As for bonfires we have 'The Twelfth' (in July) in NI - and the least said about that the better!

At the moment I have two black cats, bum to bum on the sofa, and Purdy and Grace have gone to bed with daddy. They're not daft - it's cold and rainy out.
