PR Officer

A voluntary position, working online, from home, on a flexible hours basis. We are seeking an experienced PR professional to raise the Cat Chat charity’s profile. This is a unique opportunity to make a big difference to rescued cats and shelters nationwide...

Job Outline
Preparation and management of news releases, pitching opinion pieces and rehoming stories; placing statements or letters from Cat Chat in response to cat related news issues;  developing and maintaining strong relationships with specialist and general media, both online and print. Promotion of the charity thus far has been on an ad-hoc basis; we are now looking for someone with vision and experience, to grow the charity’s profile, and reach more potential adopters.

Your Impact
This role will help to communicate to people that rescuing is the smart thing to do - a truly sustainable lifestyle choice. You will be promoting the message that cat adoption should be the first and best choice for all caring, forward thinking individuals. Our aim is for people to think ‘Rescue First’ when they are thinking of getting a cat - and to recognise Cat Chat is the place to go to start their journey to adoption.

Applicants must be fully computer literate; have excellent written and verbal communication skills; a thorough understanding of the UK media landscape from traditional outlets through broadcasting and social media; proven strategic ability; attention to detail; be reliable, self-motivated and pro-active with the ability to work independently as well as with the charity’s staff. This is a new role for us, so the successful candidate must have prior experience in a PR role. An interest in feline welfare, or perhaps experience as a cat lover/owner, would be welcomed.

Time Commitment
Hours are flexible to suit the postholder. Ideally, at least a few hours a week would be required, or more if the volunteer is willing and able to do so.

Additional Information
Applicants must be 18 or over and resident in the UK or Ireland. Shortlisted applicants will need to supply details of previous PR experience, and two references. Cat Chat is a friendly, fully inclusive team.
