Maxx (FIV+) - RESERVED
3 year old Maxx arrived at Catcuddles unneutered and a swollen paw that had severe puncture wounds, likely caused by fighting with another unneutered cat. Several ticks, parasites that can carry dangerous pathogens, were also removed from his body, and he was diagnosed as FIV+, which again is down to unneutered male cat fighting for mating rights.

Maxx's paw has responded well to antibiotics, anti-inflammatories, and regular deep-wound cleaning, and there is every hope he will make a full recovery.

This sweet boy is very much a people person and is looking for his forever home. Once Maxx finishes his antibiotics and has another wound flush he will be ready to move to his hopeful forever home if his home is near enough for Maxx to be brought to our Clinic in Palmers Green (N13 4UY) to continue his existing treatment for his paw.

FIV, or Feline Immunodeficiency Virus, is a much-misunderstood virus believed to effect 2.5-4.4% of cats globally. In the past, cats that have tested positive for FIV have been euthanised, but the more we learn about this condition the more apparent it has become that FIV cats can live happy and comfortable lives. The virus has a very slow effect on a cat's immune system, potentially weakening it over several years, and sometimes making that cat more vulnerable to secondary infections in the long-term. Every cat's immune response is different however, and  the right environment is the key to maintaining good health in an FIV cat; a balanced diet and a happy and suitable home. Many FIV positive cats live into their senior years. You can read more about FIV+ and visit some recommended resources here.

We are looking for a calm, settled spacious home (minimum of two bedrooms) with experience of caring for cats who is willing to share their home and heart with Maxx as a solo pet. An indoor home or one with a fully catproofed balcony would best suit Maxx.

Cuddly Maxx would make a wonderful companion for someone who can show him love and provide him all the care he needs, so he can forget about his days fending for himself on the streets.
