Rehoming Cats & Kittens: London (West), London (East) & Kent (West)
Alfred and Johnny

Alfred and Johnny are a pair of young male cats from a large group of cats that we have recently taken in from a flat where their owners had 47 cats.

Their owners were breeding and selling kittens during the lockdowns but when demand fell last Summer found themselves left with a lot of kittens that they couldn't rehome who then became older and less easy for them to sell.   We have neutered and returned 9 cats back to the owners care and have taken in the rest who are being cared for in the centre and two foster homes.  The local authority have also visited the owners and warned them against unlicensed breeding.

We have come to the aid of these cats and sorted out the 'mess' created by their owners but are infuriated that they saw the pandemic as a money making business opportunity selling kittens whilst others now have to pick up the pieces looking after and finding homes for the surplus cats and kittens that they couldn't sell. There is also the knock on effect as many of the kittens they sold will not get neutered and will end up having kittens themselves and many buyers won't keep the cats for life and they will end up as unwanted lockdown pets passed from home to home, abandoned or handed into rescue centres.

The cats are mainly black cats and many are quite shy as their owners did not have enough time to give them all individual attention.  They are mainly black cats as black cats are a less popular colour choice than tabbies and greys which they were also selling.

These cats have been used to living in an indoor only home and would either suit a spacious indoor home or a home with a garden and a cat flap.  They will require a cat experienced adult home.

Alfred and Johnny are shy but are responding well to playing with toys and are seeking an experienced adult home.

CAT ADOPTIONS:  The coronavirus pandemic did mean that we have had to alter our usual homing procedures. We are now in the process of returning to 'normal' but this will take some time.   Home Assessments:  Pre-coronavirus we would meet potential adopters in their homes (home visit) this was an informal visit to provide advice about caring for cats or kittens e.g health care, feeding, settling in and also an opportunity for us to feel reassured that you could provide a good home.  During the pandemic we replaced our usual home visit with a video call via What'sApp or similar to provide the same advice and so that you can also show us the cat relevant areas of your home e.g garden, location of a cat flap etc.  We are continuing with the option of an initial video call home visits or an actual home visits.

Following a successful home assessment you are then welcome to come and meet suitable cats by appointment. For homes who initially had a video call we are delivering cats to their new homes to ensure are settled in with you and any further advice required is provided.

We are continuing to prioritise homes that are local to our centres - except for feral/ outdoor cats.  Lewisham Branch Homing catchment area: All SE London and BR (Bromley) postcodes. Also N.Kent (Welling, Bexley, Sidcup, Swanley, Dartford), Croydon and SW London (SW8, SW9, SW2, SW11, SW4, SW12, SW16) If you can offer a home to a 'harder to rehome' cat we will consider homes outside our usual rehoming areas.
