Bear

About me…

Hey, my name is Bear. I came to the sanctuary after appearing stray in a kind couple’s garden. All efforts were made to find my owner but sadly it appeared I did not have one. I was a very nervous boy but the kind humans who lived there took me under their wing, fed me regularly and slowly won me round. They booked me into the vets and got me neutered and vaccinated so that I could come here to the sanctuary to find my very own forever home!

I am now a very loving boy whose most favourite thing is having a cuddle! I can be a tiny bit timid at first but once you show me love, I will let out my almighty purr and be your best friend. Sometimes I do enjoy attention a little too much and can give a little nip if you stop. I’m not trying to be mean but I just love tickles soooo much and want them constantly! I am hoping to have fusses on demand in my forever home.

Home I am looking for…

Due to being FIV positive, I am looking for a home where I will be kept completely indoors with no outdoor access. This means that I will need lots of toys, cat trees etc to keep me entertained. Puzzle feeders would be good too as I really do love my food so having to work for it would help to get my brain working too (so says my carer anyway when she gives me the strange toys with food in!)

I am quite a needy boy and do love to be around people, so would like a home where someone is around a lot. I understand you may have to go out to work to get money for all my food and presents, but I wouldn’t want to be left alone for long periods each day.

I could potentially live with other cats, those who are also FIV positive or maybe those who aren’t providing my new humans understand FIV and have researched into it. I have never really met any dogs, however I could maybe live with one if they have lived with cats before and aren’t super crazy as that may scare me!

I could live with children 10+ as long as they know to give me space and allow me to settle at my own pace.

Medical History…

I have tested positive for a virus called FIV, which I most likely contracted from another unneutered male whilst I was straying. Where I came from, there were lots of stray cats and the other males used to pick on me, I am a big softy and didn’t really know how to fight back.

If you haven’t heard of FIV before, please do some research about it online. My carer tells me people used to be scared about it and lots of cats are still euthanised even now if they test positive for FIV. I think this is very silly and I’m so glad I came here to this safe sanctuary who love me anyway. I’m hoping to find a home with people who also look past the virus I have. At the moment I am a very healthy boy and I’ve been told lots of cats live long and normal lives who are just the same as me. Please don’t be put off!

Things to note…

Bear is looking for a home as an indoor only cat. This means he needs to be kept entirely indoors, he could possibly have safe access to outdoors in a purpose built cat enclosure or if fences are cat-proofed properly with toppers.
