Any known Behavioural Issues: Maya is a 6-year-old spayed indoor female who is very vocal and is a very playful and lovable girl. She is TICA registered and microchipped. We originally got Maya as a kitten shortly after getting our puppy for companionship seeing as our older moggy cat wasn’t too interested in the dog. As the years have gone on, she has become aggressive and quite the bully, particularly to our now 13-year-old cat. We’ve tried everything from plug-ins and separation, but nothing seems to help and is putting a lot of stress on our other animals (2 other cats and dog) by chasing and attacking them. We very frequently find clumps of fur on the floor. While Maya is a handful and can be very dominating, in the right environment where she is the centre of attention, she will thrive. She loves cuddles and will flop on your lap at any given moment demanding cuddles, she also loves to nestle under a blanket and will purr contently. Maya is best not housed with other animals, due to her dominating and aggressive nature, if she deems them ‘weaker’ as she does with our 30kg Labrador she will chase and threaten him. She loves cat toys; particularly the tin foil balls that she can pick up and play fetch with (she is also fond of a folded up empty packet of crisps). Her diet is very simple, she eats Whiskas wet food twice daily and biscuits once daily. She is food orientated and does not graze. If any food is left around her, she will eat it (human food included, a kitchen door is a must). Dreamies are her favourite treat, but she isn't fussy. She has never been outside and has never shown any interest in being outdoors. We are devastated to be having to rehome Maya however it has become unfair on our other animals and on herself as she has to be separated from the other animals when she is aggressive. We also have a growing human family (2 under 5yrs old) and want Maya to get all of the attention she deserves, which we cannot provide her anymore. Maya avoids the children and has shown no aggression towards them.

She's currently based in Cumbernuld, Glasgow

The first step is to find a cat that you think could be right for you - It’s important you read the cat’s profile all the way through so you can be sure you’ll be able to support their needs. If everything looks promising, get in touch and arrange for you and your family to meet the cat. If possible, spend a few hours to getting to know them better.
Ask the owner as many questions as you can. Asking the owner lots of questions is great way to find the right pet and make sure you can give them everything they need, too. As soon as the cat is handed over to you, you become their legal owner. You can’t return them to their original home if you change your mind and The Bengal Cat Association isn’t a rescue service so we can’t take them into our care, either.
If you would like to chat to one of our team about a cat that interests you, but you need some advice before going ahead with the rehome please contact us ([email protected]) with your phone number and one of the team will ring you.
As such, you should only go through with the adoption if you’re 100% sure it’s right. If the owner agrees, you can ask to visit your potential new pet a couple of times before making a final decision or try video calling each other. Consider asking these questions before you visit the cat to help make sure you've covered the important considerations. Have I seen how the cat behaves around other cats (if applicable)? Have I double checked that the cat would suit my routine at home? Have I physically checked the cat over? Does s/he have any potential health issues that I need to ask about? Ask to see vet records. If I have children have, I seen how the cat interacts with children? Have my children met the cat? Do I have any doubts? If yes, DO NOT TAKE THE CAT HOME on this occasion and plan to visit again,
For most people, giving up a pet for adoption is heart-breaking. Please bear this in mind when you’re chatting to the owner.

Disclaimer:
Rehoming a rescue cat is a serious commitment please give your new cat a reasonable amount of time to settle to its new life. A cat can take 14 days, and sometimes several months to start to bonding with a new owner, sometimes it can be less time, other times longer.
Remember The Bengal Cat Association is a direct rehoming service, not a rescue organisation. We don’t have the facilities or the means to take cats into our care. So, ensure you as the re-homer ask many questions as you feel you need to before re-homing. However, we do offer a post-adoption support service so please contact us ([email protected]) immediately if you’re having any issues or you’ve got any questions and we will do our best to help.
