Henry

Meet Henry. Henry is about 5ish years old & is a lovely boy. He can be a bit shy initially but he soon warms up into a friendly character who likes strokes, giving people head nudges with his hand & chirruping. Henry lived out on the streets & had a tough before coming to us. He’s now looking to find a forever home to call his own. He could adapt to life indoors but ideally would have outdoor access.
Henry is very special because he’s FIV+. The FIV virus reduces a cat's immune system, slowly (over several years) this can leave it more vulnerable to other feline infections later in life
- That is all -

in itself FIV is not life threatening. The majority of cats live very happy lives with FIV & outlive their natural life span before any issues arise. Most people don't realise that:

Most cats with FIV have a strong immune system - it is only after many years that there may be sufficient decline for the effects of the virus to be evident - most FIV cats are perfectly healthy for most of their lives. Even for those who start to show effects, most infections can be handled by appropriate medications. FIV is a cat ONLY condition it cannot be passed onto humans. It can be passed to other cats HOWEVER this is extremely unlikely as it is usually transmitted through a deep cat bite wound (which is why FIV is most often seen in un neutered males) If a cats doesn’t fight, and most don’t once neutered, fed & well cared for so transmission to another cat even when living with other non FIV cats is incredibly unlikely. Unfortunately there are a lot of myths surrounding FIV even among vets with outdated info but you can find the most up to date information on FIV on the following website along with 100 real life experiences from owners of FIV cats https://www.fivcats.com/FIV/fiv_introduction.html
