Not sure if this should be here or not.
Anyway, my parents have a problem with the cats on the block peeing on their front doormat. It's one of those fake plastic grass jobs (the coir one they had dissolved after being peed to death!).
They do not have a cat. They have a dog, who frankly would like to go out and have a bundle (but would lose..... spectacularly!).
Anyway, back to the mat. It is regularly peed on and my parents' front door smells like a gents loo that's been forgotten. Not a fragrance for the house. How can we stop them? Any ideas wise Catchatters?

Get rid of the mat, wash the area down with a mix of biological washing powder and water and then wipe down with surgical spirits. Hopefully those two will break down the enzymes in the urine so stop it smelling. Just make sure you don't use bleach.
Then invest in something like this: http://www.amazon.com/Ssscat-PDT00-1391 ... B000RIA95G" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; it's emits harmless but fairly powerful puffs of air when it detects motion; that hopefully will soon stop the cats.
Also, some cats aren't fond of lemon / citrus smells so maybe a small water spray bottle with some lemon essential oil in it and then spray the area with that?

Marvellous, thanks Meriad.
I'll suggest that. The tip on getting rid of the niff is v useful and I have some lemon oil.
The puffy thing might freak the Yorkie out!

Poor Yorkie - but the container is small enough to easily and quickly be picked up when the dog needs to go by; so hopefully it wouldn't upset him / her
Good luck - I do hope they can solve the issues at hand.
Oh and also make sure you / your parents wipe down the walls alongside the doormat as chances are a tom may have had a good spray up the walls as well, not just on the mat
