Thinning fur

Post by Mylo »

Hi all, my kitty had his first vaccination last week and I noticed his fur is thinning just above his eyes and near his ears. Is this normal or should I go back to the vet? He isn't scratching or cleaning any more than usual and his next visit is in 3 weeks for his second vaccination.

Thanks

Hi there, cats' facial fur does tend to be thinner from the ear opening to the top of the eye socket. it's easier to see on dark-coated cats and in certain lights. If there are any obvious bald patches or scabbiness or scaliness that's not good, but this faint symmetrical thinness is normal.

I think the vet would have noticed if anything was amiss; they do tend to give a cat the once-over, whatever it comes in for, but if he's going back for his second jab soon, you can always mention it just to be on the safe side.

All the best with him :)

I agree with Lilith - it's probably just the natural way the fur lies there, but do mention it to your vet if you're still worried when you go in.

Thank you! There's no scabbiness or anything but I will mention it to the vet next time just to be on the safe side :)
